/Monday/
My head felt like as if someone was stabbing me in it with a sharp piece of glass when I woke up. I looked over to the other side of the room. Naruto was still sleeping, as per usual. I turned off his alarms and went to take a shower before waking him up myself. If it wasn't for me, he'd be most likely late to every single class. I was used to it though, because I had to do it ever since we were kids. We always shared a bedroom, since our parents wanted us to get close to each other. They adopted me when I was five years old. My parents died when I was two years old and I ended up in the system all alone. I owe everything I have to his mom and dad. I sighed when I couldn't wake him up, once again. He got too drunk last night even though he knew we had an early class with the new teacher today. I slapped his face twice before he lazily opened his eyes and mumbled something. I slapped him again to fully wake him up. It worked a little too well. He cursed at me and tried to kick me away from him. I grabbed his leg before he hit me.
"Get up, you don't want to miss today's class, right?"
"Oh!" Suddenly, he shot up out of his bed, his hair messy like if a bird made a nest in them. "Damn, you're right."
"I'll meet you there, don't be late." I walked over to the door and before leaving, I turned to face him one more time. "And take a shower, you smell like alcohol and cheap girls."
"Hey, you can insult me but don't insult my girl."
"She wouldn't want to smell you like this either."
"Just go, Sasuke." He rolled his eyes and pushed me out of the door, shutting it behind me. I left the dorms and slowly went into the main building that was around five minutes away. I still had about half an hour, so I decided to go to the cafeteria to get some tea before class. I ran into some of my classmates on the way, and they all looked just like Naruto. Everyone was partying a little too much yesterday. As I was ordering my drink on the go, I couldn't stop thinking about what the teacher could look like. I was definitely hoping it wouldn't be someone too old, I didn't want to lose the dare. There wasn't one that I wouldn't accept or one that I wouldn't win. When I arrived into the classroom, people were already sitting in their usual seats. The room was in a cinema style, with eleven rows of chairs with little tables mounted to them and down in front of them was a small podium with the teachers desk and projector. I sat on my spot, next to Shikamaru and his girlfriend, Temari. They both greeted me and asked me if I'm excited about today's new mentor. I didn't say anything and they didn't bother trying to ask me anymore questions. The bell rang soon after I came and people were still coming in five minutes later. Naruto was one of them. He sat next to me, his hair still dripping down onto his shoulders. The wet stains were standing out on his orange shirt. His cheeks were red and he was still catching his breath. He was running to get in, but the teacher came ten minutes late, so he didn't even have to. The class fell silent when the door next to the podium opened and someone finally walked in. It was a taller man with long black hair that was framing his face on the sides and in the back it was tied into a very loose ponytail. He was wearing a knitted grey sweater with a button up shirt underneath and black pants with a belt. On the very top of his nose were his glasses. He silently looked all over the room, scanning all of us, before he spoke. His voice was deep and no one dared to disturb him. He didn't look much older than us. Ten years max.
"My name is Uchiha Itachi," he wrote his name on the whiteboard next to the desk. "I will be teaching you the English literature from now on. As long as you all do your assignments and participate in the lessons, we should get along just fine. Now, I won't be asking for all of your names, because that would take too much time. So I'll send around pieces of papers and just write your names on them and put those on your tables." As he said that, he walked to one of the closest students to him and gave him the pile of papers to send around. When I got the papers, I took one and gave them to Naruto. I wrote my name on it and then folded it into an A shape and left it next to my hands. When we were all done, he spoke again. "Since this is our first class together, I won't try to start teaching right away. Rather, I'd like to hear about your favourite books instead. To get some perspective on who you are as people. Who wants to start?" No one said anything and no one raised their hands. Naruto nudged my shoulder and when I glanced at him, he was mouthing to me that I should go for it. He was right, it was a good opportunity. I raised my hand and the teacher noticed me immediately.
"Okay," he looked at my name on the piece of paper. "Sasuke, is it?"
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Great, Sasuke. What's your favourite book? And why?"
"Probably the Brave new world, by Aldous Huxley. And why, hm,.. because it is so controversial. People like to believe that technology has the power to save us all from everything, but Huxley shows the dangers of it as well. If you were to get rid of all the unpleasant things in life, you'd most likely lose some of its best pleasures too. And even though this book has been written several decades ago, it's still valid to this day. People would sacrifice their freedom, their responsibilities to be content and satisfied, but don't realise what it truly means."
"A great choice indeed. I sure wouldn't have expected someone to read Huxley's Brave new world. What a pleasant surprise. I agree with what you said. Would we all really want to live in a world where everyone seems to be equal on the first glance, but deep underneath the surface is bubbling the idea of inequality and unfairness?" He sat on the table and crossed his arms on his chest. "This novel represents the idea of a Utopia, a perfect world. Do you know what two words utopia is derived from, Sasuke?"
"No, I don't."
"It's from Greek words meaning "good place" and "no place"; suggesting that the perfect world of Utopia is impossible." He pushed his glasses a bit higher on his nose. "I'm impressed."
"Thanks." I said, seemingly bored but deep down I was glad that I ever read this book. Because reading was never my strong suit and truth to be told, I only ever read the Brand new world. After this, he called out to few other students before the class ended. Most of the people in my class had an hour before another one and went into the cafeteria close by. I stayed behind, until there were only a few other people in there. I walked down the stairs in the middle of the rows. The teacher noticed me and stopped in his tracks.
"Do you need something, Sasuke, was it?"
"Yeah," I nodded. "So, how do you like our school?"
"Is that what you wanted to talk to me about?" He asked, raising his eyebrows. "Don't you have another class to go to?"
"No, I've got an hour to spare. It's hard to be the new teacher coming in in the middle of the year, isn't it? I'm sure you've heard that two of our teachers left very suddenly."
"I have heard of that, yes. Why are you telling me this?"
"I was just hoping that you're not going to leave soon as well. It's hard to learn like this, you know."
"Don't worry, I'm not planning to leave since I literally just moved into town recently."
"Great!" I gave him a smile. "What was your name again?"
"It's still on the board."he pointed next to himself.
"Right." I tilted my head. "Itachi, hm?"
"No, Dr. Uchiha for you."
"That's quite the mouthful though."
"I'm sure you will manage."
"We'll see, Itachi." I said and quickly turned around to leave. I knew he yelled something after me, but I couldn't hear him over the sound of my heart beating in my ears.
