I wake up in the emergency room. My breathing burns as I feel the all too familiar clear tubes through my nose. Each breath is consuming my mind. My brain is screaming, but nothing comes out of my mouth. My voice is numb. It hurts to talk.
"Sorry, the anesthesia is done sweetie," the nurse says while holding my hand.
"So can someone tell me why it's back?" I ask.
"Radiation therapy didn't work as well as we had thought at the time," the doctor says.
"You last visit, we found the tumor in your lungs and spreading to your lymph nodes and nearby organs," the nurse says.
"We tried our best to get it out. If we can't get the rest out of your lungs by next week, you might only have a few to six months at the most," the doctor says.
"However, best-case scenario, if we get it out, you will still need check-ups monthly, and you have to have an oxygen tank," she says.
"Ok," I say processing the news.
"Can you get me my book from my bag?" I ask.
"Of course, sweetie," the nurse says.
She hands me the book with sticky notes as I start reading.

Clarity Brown is what my parents said when they found me. Wait, are they really my parents? My head is dizzy and painful as my teeth hurt. Why are my teeth sharp? Other people don't have as sharp teeth as me.
Why do I feel so powerful, so graceful? My sense are so much stronger and my breathing feels so nice.
"When you get home, please don't tell your Sally about what happened. She may be your little sister, but she loves and worries about you," she says.
"Ok," I say.
"Are you ok, Clarity?" the man asks.
"I think," I respond.
"You looked pale back there. Just making sure," he says.
"Why don't you get ready for supper when you get home. I'm sure you need a shower, sweetie," she says.
"Alright," she says as she feels the side of her neck. Two little bumps. Her hands are glistening with scarlet, but then it fades and dries.
Does anybody else notice this dried up blood?
"Am I bleeding?" I ask.
"No, I don't see any blood," he says.
"Ok, just making sure," I say looking out the window.

"Archie!" I yell squeezing the life out of him.
"Ahhh, soon you're going to make me need an oxygen tank, sis!" he says laughing as I punch him.
"Not funny," I retort.
"So I heard the bad news," he mutters.
"Yeah, have you told the others?" I ask.
"No, I wanted you to tell them first," he replies.
"Cheer up; I'm going to be fine. I always am," I say with an unsure smile.
"Sis, you know I can't fall for that yet. Mom, Astrid, dad, and now you're practically dying. Our family is falling apart, sis. Just try to live," he says putting his face in his hands.
