LUCY looked around, not knowing where the hell she was. It had been at least three hours, and she had no way of getting back to Prague. She had tried her web-shooters, but she found out quickly that one had been damaged, and the other was missing. Her chest heaved greatly; trying to calm herself from hyperventilating too much and having a panic attack in public.
Every person she tried to talk to seemed to run away from her, screaming her nickname Miss Canada in horror. She had walked down the street, before deciding to enter a clothing store. A few heads turned at the sound of the small ding, but mostly everyone ignored her presence.
"Hi," she huffed, one of her hands firmly pressed to her side; her waist was starting to swell. "Do you have a phone I could use?"
The lady behind the register gave her a blank stare, and Lucy mentally cursed, remembering she was in Berlin.
With a gentle pat, she tapped her forehead, trying to remember how to speak German—she was fluent in English, of course, but only had a rough understanding of how to speak French, German, and Spanish.
Her mother had mentioned the importance and benefits of knowing other languages a few times.
"Uh..T-Telefon? Benutze das Telefon?" Lucy gave the woman a pleading look, sticking out her thumb and pinkie to mimic a phone. After a short moment, the lady's face lit up before turning away.
Lucy sighed in relief, before grimacing at a sudden shock of pain in her ribs. When the woman returned, she offered a landline phone. Giving a gracious nod, Lucy quickly dialled her mother's number.
When she didn't pick up the first time, Lucy redialled. On the fourth ring, her mother finally picked up. "Hello?" her voice was groggy with sleep.
"Mom?!" Lucy gasped, tears quickly filling her eyes when she heard the familiar voice. Her left hand let go of her side to grip the phone tightly. "H-Hi mom."
"Lucy? Are you okay?" her mother asks, noticing Lucy's voice wavering. "Honey, what happened?"
"Oh, nothing. Nothing." Lucy quickly shook her head, earning a few odd glances from other shoppers. She ignored them, glancing up at the ceiling to try and prevent herself from crying. The teenager inhaled sharply. "I-I...was just wondering what was Happy's phone number?"
There was a pause. "You're calling me at six in the morning to ask about a phone number?"
Lucy forced a laugh before sniffling. She moved out of the way when a man approached the register to pay for something. Shuffling away, Lucy leaned against the wall. "Yeah, we're out for lunch right now and Peter forgot his phone at the hotel."
