It was too late to go searching for the C.H.I.P. microthingy back in the cafeteria.

I figured it was lost for good, but if we did in fact find it, it would probably be fried anyway. But that wasn't the end of C.H.I.P., of course. I had the C.H.I.P. microthingy 2.0 back at HQ, and now we had to use it, ready or not!

Chip and I jumped into the C.H.I.P.-mobile and sped off down the wet street. As we splashed through streams of water, I radioed Stella that we were on our way. She radioed back: "The crack in the dam is getting bigger!"

There was no time to lose. I floored it, and the C.H.I.P.-mobile picked up speed. I looked over to check on Chip—but he wasn't there! Then I heard a big "WA-HOO!" and turned around to see him waterskiing behind the C.H.I.P.-mobile!

I had to admit, Chip sure had a great sense of fun. I guess that was why we were such good friends. I made a mental note to learn how to have fun from Chip after all this was over. That is, if I didn't have to live under five hundred feet of water at the same time!

We finally made it back to HQ, and I pulled out the new C.H.I.P. microthingy 2.0 from my basement safe. (Okay, I kept it in an old lunch box, not a safe. I made another mental note: Get a real safe.)

I attached the microchip to the back of Chip's false tooth, and when he put it back into his mouth, I crossed every one of my fingers and even some of my toes . . . which made it really hard to operate my phone. So I uncrossed a few fingers and punched in the commands to turn Chip into a race car driver. After all, we needed to get back up to the lake as fast as possible!

And the C.H.I.P. microthingy 2.0 worked! Chip morphed into C.H.I.P. the race car driver.

As we ran back out to the C.H.I.P.-mobile, I held out hope that C.H.I.P. would be as skilled and amazing as before. I didn't want any surprises, but if there were going to be any, I hoped they'd be good ones.

After all, I'd had more evil surprises today than I could handle!
