I wracked my brain about things we could do to break the Curse, but I came up with nothing. Even when I got to school, I tried to come up with a groundbreaking idea. I wasn't the only one, apparently, everyone had been. By History class, one of us had an idea. It wasn't me. I thought it would have been Kate or Erik, but no it was Ivelyn who came up with an idea that just might work.
She told us in History class. Actually, she bragged to us in History class. We filled the back row, except for one seat that had been Daniel's. He had been exiled when the two of us broke up. Ivelyn had cast him aside to the third row next to Jeff who farted throughout the class. I hadn't felt bad when we were actually broken up, but now that we were back together I felt guilty. It had been four days and Daniel was still sitting in the third row with Jeff.
Obviously, it didn't make me feel that bad because I hadn't said anything. I wanted to tell Addie before I told the rest of the Coven. I tried to explain this to Daniel, but he didn't understand. He didn't get why I had to tell her first and he didn't understand why I hadn't told her yet. Erik knew, obviously, but he was the only one. Scratch that, Dara knew, but I lived with her so that was also obvious that she would know.
It seemed like every time I went to tell Addie, there was some reason not to. Like, when I went to tell her in Health class, she started venting to me about Conner. I tried to tell her at lunch, but the Coven was already there. I couldn't easily tell Addie in front of the Coven. I wanted to tell Addie, but I was waiting for the right time to tell her.
"Tell me why this will work and before it didn't?" Addie challenged. It was something I thought Erik might say if he were in this class. He was a Junior, like Troy and had advanced History.
"This will work because instead of going back to when Samuel tried to break the Curse we'll go back to when he wrote how to break the Curse." Ivelyn's eyes widened with delight.
"How would we know that?" Addie asked. No one wanted to believe that Ivelyn had come up with a good idea. I found myself doubting her plan too, but then I realized how brilliant it was.
"Actually, I know." They all stared at me. "I saw the page he was reading from, it was a journal. There was a date at the top, I can almost see it." I squeezed my eyes shut, thinking back to my vision. It was easier to see the details about visions from the past, probably because they weren't changing. The future was constantly changing as people changed their minds. "September eighth, eighteen-forty-five. I just have to go back a couple of months further in the past."
It gave me hope for two reasons. One reason, it seemed feasible. The second reason, was because it meant Samuel had written the spell, gathered the ingredients, and preformed the spell within a couple of months. We had fifteen days to do this, but we also had everything Samuel had learned on our side.
"Do you think you can get yourself there? You've never tried a specific date before." Mir brought up a good point. I hadn't ever done something like this. That didn't mean I couldn't, but it did mean I would need the help of the Amulet. I wasn't opposed to this.
"No, but it's our only chance. Where should we meet after school?" It would be the second day in a row all of us would be meeting up. I desperately needed to talk to Addie, but there was no time. My phone buzzed in my pocket. I didn't have to check it to know it was from Daniel. Everyone else was here.
"My parents will be at work and Scarlett and Bryce will be gone. I could host this time." Mir offered. Ivelyn wanted us to go to her house like we always did. I chose now to pull out my phone, let the others deal with the details. I had been right, the text was from Daniel.
"I should be there when you try to have your vision. I want to help. Please." I grit my teeth, gripping my cellphone tightly. Addie noticed but didn't say anything.
