"Lisa McFeddron, guilty of large scale theft and vandalism upon three accounts. Guilty! Case Closed! Sentence of 18 months Camp Green Lake."
That was two weeks ago. Now I'm on a bus to the camp, with a bag of pjs and deodorant for a lifetime.
"I'm hoping this is fun."
"If you think this camp is fun, you should be left there for the rest of your life."
I resumed my silence until I reached the camp.
"Thanks for the ride."
"See you in 18 months."
As I stepped out of the bus, I noticed a crowd of boys, standing, covered in sand and sweat running down their faces.
"Yo, Armpit! It's a chic!"
"We got a girl?"
"I always wanted to make first contact with extraterrestrial life."
The crowd turned into a frenzy, mobbing towards me. There was one boy who stood where the crowd was, completely silent. He had curly brown hair, and was just generally cute. The crowd reached me just as I finished taking in the scenery.
"Hey babe."
"You're pretty rare around here."
One of them seemed to be a bit more calm.
"I'm Zigzag, at your service." He gave a low bow. "Let's get you through this mess and into Mr. Sir's office. You need to check in."
"Okay! By the way, my name's Lisa."
"Pleasure to meet you, Lisa." He smiled as he pushed through the crowd, holding me close behind him.
"This is it." We walked up to the door of a beat down building. Zigzag opened the door for me, and stepped in as soon as I was inside.
"You must be new. I'm Mr. Sir, and you will call me by that name for the next 18 months." He grimaced.
"Yes, Mr. Sir."
"You will be in D Tent for your sentence here."
"Yes, Mr. Sir."
"Zigzag!"
"Yes, Mr. Sir?" He seemed nervous.
"Get the girl her suits and boots."
"Yes, Mr. Sir." He turned to a shelf filled with orange suits and black boots, and grabbed two of each.
"These here are your clothes. One for work, one for relaxation. Your work clothes get washed every three days, and your relaxing clothes become your work ones."
"Yes, Mr. Sir."
"Why don't you show Lisa around, Zigzag? You two are in the same tent."
"Yes, Mr. Sir. Gladly, Mr. Sir." He winked as he carried my clothes out the door. "Those are the showers, and that's the mess hall. That building over there is our tent." We walked towards D Tent, as I brought up a rather important topic of conversation.
"Who else is in our tent?"
"You'll see." He winked at me. This is certainly much better than jail.
