Kat walked to the safe house, alone. With sunken eyes, she had watched Ava being taken as a hostage when she disappeared into the portal, the recurring images of her going away made the welled-up tears fall. Fear takes hold on the lonely. Shadows quicken their beckoning, shuffling of feet, scratching of twigs, whistling of leaves seems like a growl grunt, of a recurring enemy

She tried thinking of something else, distracting her mind while she tasted salt on her tongue. Fear didn't catch her breath, her conscience did. She had to get the Vanaga stone. But the promise she had made to her mother made her hesitate, but she had also promised to keep Ava safe. If she upheld one promise while breaking another it wouldn't be so bad right. The night her mother died, flashed in her eyes, her words replying over and over as she made her way to the house

Kalypso was stabbed, her stomach bled while she tried to maintain her balance. She bent down to look at her beautiful daughters who were hiding underneath the kitchen table.

'Mum you're bleeding ----'

'I know I know, shush now, little Katarina'

"I am scared" Ava's voice cut through. Kalypso took the support of the table's legs and sat down while holding her stomach with one hand

"Don't be scared, everything will be alright" Katarina was trembling, her shaky hands held Ava, they were both crouched in the tiny space underneath the table

"Now listen carefully to me" Kalypso whispered slowly, her words and breaths were numbered

"There are bad people in this world, and I won't always be there to protect you. So, you have to promise me that you'll protect each other and keep yourself safe

"We will" Katarina assured

'"Take this pendant" she snatched the locket from her neck and handed it to Katarina

"Keep this safe, I don't have much time but b-but there's something I want you to do"

She took a long breath and continued "This necklace is the only way he can get the Vanaga stone, the one we swore to protect...at any cost don't...don't let him use you to take it..."

"What stone mum? What are you talking about?"

"The-- wanted our—family--" she collapsed after these vague words, Ava gripped Katarina's hand tighter, struggling to keep away the tears but losing. Katarina heaved a sigh and shook her mum's body

"Mom, mom, wake up mom" Ava whimpered

"She isn't moving...she isn't moving Katarina" tears flooded her face, Katarina cupped Ava's cheeks in her hands and placed her head on her chest

"Shush now, don't worry... don't worry Ava'

Katarina was almost on the doors of the safe house. After her mother had died, a guy named Mark had come to their house. He had hazel brown eyes, which matched his light brown hair. His jawline and collarbone were sharp and caught the girl's eyes. With slim lean, but strong body, he looked quite pretty, especially when sun kissed his eyes and he seemed like hearth. Mark was a member of the VIETRA – he had told her that this was an organisation which fought bad guys, the ones that had hurt her mother, and Kalypso was a part of VIETRA too. She and Ava had been living at their headquarters since the past couple of weeks. Since the house was guarded by the other members and was at an isolated street corner, they had felt safe. Now when she looks at it, deciding to go out for a while, getting fresh air seemed like a really terrible plan, but in her defence, nobody had warned them that Nicholas knew where they were

She entered the password to unlock the door of the house, she quickly sketched the plan in her mind

1.Go to her room.

2.Get the locket from the safe

3.Take a backpack and add important stuff

4.Go to the cavern

5.Get the stone

6.Save her sister

She took silent and hushed steps to the room, thankfully it was on the ground floor, stairs would have caused noise. She quietly opened the door and snuck in. she grabbed the locket out of the safe, , took her phone and charger and put them in the first bag she could find along with some nachos, energy bars and a bottle. She texted Mark that they had bumped into a relative and were going to spend the night at their house. She opened the window and left the house through it.She entered the location on google maps to reach the cavern, Mark had told her about.
