Traveling to the dungeon apparently required the assistance of a guard, according to Talcone. In fact, it was the same one that had grabbed the Doctor in the first place, so Willow wasn't exactly the nicest to him on the trip down.
"I swear if you ever touch my Doctor like that again, I will personally make sure you never come out of this dungeon," she emphasized to him.
He said nothing, making it even more enjoyable for Willow.
After cursing and a small kick on the leg (which did absolutely nothing- much to Willow's frustration), they had finally reached the dungeon.
"Doctor!" Willow called.
A hand stuck out of a cell and waved. "Willow? Is that you?"
She smiled at her friend's voice and immediately ran to the cell. He sat on a pile of hay with his head leaned against the bars. This time he wasn't chained, which further confirmed their idea about why Talcone had decided to chain them up in the first place.
"Glad to see ya," he casually said, as if they were friends who hadn't seen each other in three years but coincidentally crossed paths.
"Are you okay in there? I mean, are they treating you fine?"
"Willow, I've only been here for thirty minutes."
"I know, I know," she slipped her hand between the bars and touched the side of his head, until she remembered about the stupid guard. "Excuse me, can you go somewhere else for a second?"
He stood still.
Willow tossed her curls back. "Under the orders of your future damn queen, I order you to leave this room, got that?"
The guard snarled at her but he did as he was told. The heavy door closed behind him as he left the room.
"Thank god he's gone," she rolled her big hazel eyes.
The Doctor raised his eyebrows. "Future damn queen?"
"Well it worked didn't it?" She huffed. "Anyway, I came to ask about what you told me."
"Remember to look to the left?"
Willow nodded eagerly, before her expression contorted as the Doctor shook his head.
"You were supposed to understand that! It was like a cryptic message!"
"Cryptic?" Willow squinted her eyes. "Why couldn't you have told me then and there?"
"All my companions have understood my cryptic messages, I just thought since you're clever you could get it too," the Doctor tried to explain, but he could already see Willow about to explode with sass.
"Companion? Now I'm just a companion to you?-"
"N-no it's not like that!"
"What, I'm a Time Lord's best friend? I'm a dog in your eyes?"
"Oh bloody hell," the Doctor shoved his face in his hands.
"And what do you mean 'you thought I was clever?' I'm not clever anymore, Doctor? Hmm?"
"That came out wrong, I apologise," he stuttered, a bit shocked at her reaction.
"Apologize for telling me a cryptic message! Just tell me like a normal person! Jesus, Doctor. You just had to make it into a puzzle, didn't you?"
The Doctor just shook his head and let out a breathy laugh. "Willow Watterson," he said. "You are clever, and you are more to me than the term companion, okay?"
