"Theo can you drive me into town?" I ask as I enter Theo's room to see him puffing smoke out his bedroom window.
"Your going out? How'd you manage to convince mum and dad?" Theo says in between coughs as he chokes on the smoky air around him. He crushes his cigarette against the window seal before throwing it outside his window and into the neighbour's backyard. He's gotten quite good at destroying the evidence because god knows mum and dad would have a fit.
"Its only to study," I explain as he aimlessly wonders around his room trying to find a clean shirt to put on.
"Of course, its not like you do anything else," he mutters underneath his breath. Remarks like this would make other people's blood boil but I don't let them get to me, I like who I am.
"And I need you to pick up my friend on the way there," I add to which Theo rolls his eyes at.
"Whatever, I was going into town anyway," he says as he walks past me and outside his bedroom to which I follow behind him.
I am stopped in my tracks as we bypass our parents on the way out the front door. "Juliana wait!" my mother depends to which I turn around immediately and scurry over to where she is sitting with dad as he reads the paper. "I want you home by 5 o'clock and not a second later, do you hear me?"
"Yes, yes of course."
"And don't think about going anywhere else besides the library while in town."
"I thought that maybe we'd go to Chrissy's for lunch, would that be okay?"
"I suppose," my mother says looking over to my father who gives a nod of approval without even looking up from his newspaper. "Very well off you go, otherwise you'll be late to pick up Megan, we don't want that now do we." Because nothing could be worse than being a couples minutes late to pick up Megan, or should I say to pick up Robert and Sandra's daughter, because that is who is really of their concern, not Megan.
We say goodbye to our parents before jumping in the Volkswagen and making our way to Megan's house, which is close by. We pull up to the front of Megan's house to see her already waiting outside on the front porch.
"You never told me that your friend was hot Juliana," Theo says tilting down his sunglasses as he watches Megan run down her driveway and into the back of the Volkswagen. "I'm Theo, Juliana's older brother," Theo says in a deep voice as he turns around from the drivers seat to see Megan.
"Megan," she replies simply giving him a small smile. I watch Theo as he looks Megan up and down before giving her a wink, which makes me want to hurl. I swear my brother just views girls as sex objects, nothing more, nothing less. I give Megan an apologetic smile before turning back around in my seat.
"I haven't seen you around before, you go to Clearpoint?" Theo asks Megan as he looks in the rear-view mirror to see her respond.
"I just moved here actually, I go to Lakeside," Megan says calmly.
"I've got some friends that go to Lakeside, ones actually throwing a party tonight, you should come!" Theo says eagerly, flashing Megan a grin into the mirror.
"Maybe..."
Theo stops in the middle of the road across from the library giving us enough time to quickly jump out. "I'll catch you later," he says to Megan, giving her a small wink before speeding down the street to which Megan's gives no real reaction.
We walk into the library finding a spare table in the back corner to study at. I can't seem to shake what happened in the car, how relentless my brother is. "I'm sorry about Theo."
