Words left me. I stared into those bright blue eyes of hers burning with an answer, and my heart fell silent. "Answer me!" She said with anxiety . But I couldn't will my lips to move.
As if stuck underwater, everything was slow and warbled as she placed her hand on the glass barrier "Rain! Say something we have limited time to spend together " she demanded. But my mind was blank and my eyes wide as I stared at her in sorrow. Her eyes desperately searched mine... waiting.
I had to say something! I searched my mind for something reasonable to say, but to my surprise my heart answered for me, "I ...." I said stammering then I told her the summary of the whole story.
She opened her mouth in shock when we got half way into the story "Whoa!" She exclaimed "I can't believe you went through all thus terrible things " she said then the cop signalled to us and told us we had less than two minutes to go
"Your story touch my heart to the moon and back , I'll try everything in my power to get you out of here and make you happy again " she said to me sorrowfully , tears gushed from her eyes like a water fall. "Thank you"was all I kept saying .
The cops already told us to depart and so we did , they escorted me to the front of my cell room, as I was going inside my room , Sassy and her crew appeared like a flash of light at my presence
" So...you are the pesky little newbie hun "the said as they were each moving a baseball stick up and down as if they were about to hit it on my face
" What do you three want" I said as I also moved closer to them nodding my head simultaneously and secretly summoning my courage
"Whoaaaaa! The newbie got some stupid courage" she said trying to wank me with the stick "listen up you freak , we run this prison, it's either you woman up and do as we say or you get it real hard..do you understand!" She said as I rudely walked away from her side
She grabbed my hand and pushed me to the ground , I fell down hitting my spine to the ground "I said d-o y-o-u u-n-d-e-r-s-t-a-n-d" she said as she puts her face towards mine and spiting expeditiously to my face
I had nothing on my mind to do than to hit her right in the face and so I did , I hut her face real hard till it began to gush blood from her nostrils
The whole cell room gathered to see the raging fight between me and the meany head . The rest of her crew went down and started to hit me everywhere , I was so angry to fright alone then Sassy retreated her gang
I stood up to sassy and said "This isn't a battle sassy , it's a war and I'm going to win it" I said as I spat at her face , pride had overwhelmed her to fight back , she walked angrily passed me
The whole cell started to cheer at how courageous I was "Oh my God Rain! You stood up to sassy, no body in this cell room has stood up to her like that, you're what we here like to call 'our prison guerrera '" Sally said
Sun sank lower in the sky, light of day draining away, giving way to the velvety dark of night, crickets chirping, dusky, colors subdued in the fading light, first buzz of mosquitoes.
Prison lights click on, day winding down, first star in the night sky, air became cooler, evening landscape, twilight had fallen, the sharp shadow of the lamppost beside the bars of the cell room had faded into the dark of the sidewalk, fading light, only the faintest of light shone through the leaves, soon it grew dark, darkening sky, a close silence in the dim evening light.
In that welcome amber glow the time of slower thoughts has arrived, those moments when with open eyes my brain becomes as a perfect empty horizon, seeing, yet content to sit.
I felt the soothing breeze, become absorbed in the music of crickets, letting the gentle energy of nature wash in. I wonder how Christmas will be like in jail
"I wonder how Christmas is in here" I said to sally "it's kind of interesting, every eve the good ones out of us will gather and sing to the deep blue sky and say our wishes till we all fall asleep " she said
A sudden crick came from the bars of the prison cell "you'll stay in here for now" the prison guard said
A brown skinned young lady walked slowly and shyly walked to the last bed in the cell room , everybody watched her as she walked to her bed. As John Greenleaf Whittier would say she was as familiar as our childhood’s stream or pleasant memory of a dream.
Minutes later I walked down to the toilet beside where the new girl was , I really needed to go so I had to wait to talk to her till I came outside, as soon as I was done peeing , I opened the door and surprisingly saw the girl in front of it
"Oh! I didn't see you there " I said to her "Yeah me either" she replied "I'm Rain by the way" I said stretching my hand forward for an handshake "Yeah I know who you are and I'm here to bust you out" she replied
"What! What do you mean by " you know who I am"" I said "look it's me Penny , I wore a disguise to save you" she said
