It's a continuation of the last chapter. Also its the final chapter. Please just be glad I actually made it. I'm pretty sure theres 2 paragraphs in here somewhere in third person POV by accident, but I couldnt find them a second time so please ignore it. The chapter is really long compared to the others. Oops.

Sorry about this being the finale, but I realized I was a lesbian recently and i have pretty little motivation to write straight romance.

Jake's POV:

I was finally woken up at 1:00 pm by the sounds of yelling outside my door. I easily recognize it as my parents fighting. Not this again, not today. At least my dad will be gone again soon, which is a relief.

The first thing I do is check my phone. So many messages. Sophia's friends are attacking me. One message from Valorie sticks out.

Was she not good enough for you?

No. She's great, I was just lying to myself when I said I liked her.

The group chat has been going crazy with texts from Charles and Gina having a serious argument about whether or not hotdogs are sandwiches.

A meme from Amy. It's not funny, but it's the first thing she's sent to me in months.

So I respond with 😂

She texts back "I miss you" and I want to cry. I've missed her too.

We talk for about an hour about silly things like we always did. Is it ok to eat raw cookie dough? Jake thought it was fine, but Amy was worried about him getting salmon ella or something like that. Jake didnt know what fish had to do with cookie dough, the combination sounded like something Charles would make.

It's a really nice distraction from the mistakes he made with Sophia. Well really he only made one mistake: showing any romantic interest in her at all.

Then Amy steered the conversation more towards small talk and catching up.

What was happening? My dad came back again. My mom fell for it again.
My mom and dad are currently yelling and fighting, so I've decided the safest place to stay is in my closet.

Then I realize something genius. Theres a fire escape outside my window. I text Amy to get to my apartment complex as quickly as possible and go up to the roof.

Her response says she cant get there for another half hour.

I tell her she wont be back for dinner with what I just planned. She tells me she can't get a ride back until tomorrow morning, but her parents are fine if she can stay overnight. More time with Amy? I'm not fighting it

I carefully open the door and timidly step forward one foot at a time. My parents are too busy screaming to notice when I grab $50 out of my mom's purse. I leap back into my room and swing the door shut.

Once I'm in the clear I release the breathe I had been holding in.

Now it's magic time. I grab my backpack and throw the money in along with a blanket and a few pillows. After rifling through my drawers I find a movie projector I got that you put your phone in to play a movie on a big blank wall. I add in a couple bags of nuts I keep in my room for when I'm snacky. I think theres probably some candy lying around my room too.

After finding several bags with Rolos, M&Ms, and Skittles, I'm satisfied with the food in the backpack, but it looks empty without drinks. I dont even hide when I grab two cups and a two litre of Sprite from the kitchen. My parents dont question it. They're too concerned about winning this futile debate to realize that their own son is just going to run away for the night.
