back on the grind
marvin had whizzer over for dinner with his "wife" and son. after dinner trina stepped out onto the back patio while whizzer, marvin, and jason spoke.
whizzer stepped outside to have a few drags of a cigarette where he met trina who was sitting on the steps. he sat down next to her and lit up his cigarette. they sat there for two excruciatingly silent minutes before whizzer began,"soo..."
"i can't believe you're dating marvin," trina cut him off.
"well, you were with him for over 13 years, he must have some redeeming qualities," whizzer defended himself and marvin.
"what- i guess.. he likes making the bed," trina laughed.
"he does! but won't do any other house chores," whizzer complained,"he especially hates-"
"washing the dishes," the two said in unison. they looked at each other shocked with slight smiles, but looked away quickly.
"uhh, he is a very hard worker," trina added.
"that's also true. he leaves before i even wake up.. at 7," whizzer didn't sound too happy about that.
"you know what.. i can't think of much else," trina awkwardly chuckled.
"he can be sweet. he is sweet, deep down. he's too prideful," whizzer let out a puff of grey smoke.
"he is prideful," trina's smile completely disappeared because she remembered all the fights she and marvin had because of that trait. whizzer acts similarly. "do you two fight a lot," she asked.
"yeah. it's sometimes important, but usually just over dumb shit. like- like he fought me over which one of us unpacked which bag of groceries... why does he need to unpack the ones he carried in..," whizzer scoffed.
"it's a quirk you'll learn to deal with. he's a bit controlling, honestly, but he means well. think about it, he doesn't want you doing his work! that's good for you," trina was smiling again but that ended just as she said,"oh my god listen to me! i sound like some kind of marvin expert!"
"well, who else other than you could be," whizzer joked as he stepped down the stairs to throw his cigarette into the street.
"MOM WHERE ARE THE COOKIES? DIDNT YOU MAKE THEM YESTERDAY," jason yelled from inside the house.
"duty calls," trina shouts to whizzer as she goes back into the house.
whizzer followed her in momentarily. the four were soon all together again in the living room.
"trina- you can't just transfer jason to a new school without telling me! i should be aware of these things," marvin argued.
"that's not your decision to make, it's jason's! it's not like we weren't going to tell you," trina fought back. whizzer sat and rubbed jason's arm to comfort him.
"what if he needs me? how am i supposed to know where to get him from? i don't know any of his teachers either, that's a lot!"
"why are you always like this! stop thinking of yourself marvin- this is about jason and where he goes to school," trina put her head in her hands.
"if it's the right thing to do for the kid, that's what we do, marvin," whizzer calmly explained, making eye contact with trina.
"thank you, whizzer," she said, not happily but not angrily. her voice was audibly stressed and strained. marvin gave whizzer an angry look. whizzer shot one right back and marvin's glare relaxed.
"im sorry about that, jason, you can excuse yourself," trina smiled in an obviously fake manner, but jason accepted it and ran off.
there was a bit more chatter and arguing but marvin and whizzer we're gone within the hour.
"since when did you and trina do that thing," marvin rolled his eyes as he buckled his seatbelt.
"what thing," whizzer laughed and unbuttoned his shirt a bit, no longer caring about how he looked.
"agree. since when did you agree," marvin explained.
"i don't know marv, but.. i think she secretly does like me! we have a lot in common," whizzer buckled his seatbelt and put the car in reverse.
"yeah what might that be," marvin asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.
"you.."
