Chapter 12:Home Sweet Home

When the plane finally landed, Lucy and I were greeted by Vernon and his wife Dee. "Welcome back to Memphis,girls." Vernon said as he hugged us both. "Thanks, happy to be back." I said to him. "This is my wife, Dee." Vernon said introducing us to her. "Nice to meet you,girls. Elvis and Red talk about y'all all the time . You're both beautiful young ladies. " Dee said shaking both of our hands. "Why, thank you. " Me and Lucy both said in unison. "We hope your both hungry. Because we were just about to go and eat lunch at Huey's." Vernon said as he took our suitcases. "We're starving." We both said as we got into the taxi. We went to Huey's and got cheeseburgers and fries. After lunch, we went back to the taxi and drove to Graceland. When we came to the front of the house, I saw Elvis, The guys, the maids, and Mamaw. "Welcome home sweetheart." Elvis said to me as I got out of the taxi with Lucy,Vernon, and Dee. "I'm so happy to be back home. " I said as Elvis lifted me up into his arms and spun me around. Me and Lucy were greeted by everyone with hugs as Elvis and Red talked to the guys. "I want you to meet someone."Elvis said as he walked me over to a woman wearing a dark blue dress with black heels and had her hair piled up into a small beehive. "Hi, I'm Patsy. Elvis and me are double first cousins. He said you are pretty little thing and you sure are." Patsy said shaking my hand. "Why, thank you." I said smiling at her. After everyone hugged me and told me welcome home, I went to the bathroom to get ready for dinner. After we ate an another amazing dinner made by Hattie and Alberta, we came into the living room where Elvis and me sat by the piano as everyone gathered around on the couch. "I'm gonna play one of Nikki's favorite songs by me. "Elvis said as he started to play. He sung the song "Anyplace is paradise" that he recorded in the late 50's. We both sang together as the guys sung the background vocals. After Elvis got finished playing song requests from everybody, me and Lucy got into Vernon's car and drove to his house. When me and Lucy got out and went into the house with our luggage, we got settled in. As we got ready to go to bed, we heard Vernon on the phone. "What do you think he's talking about?" Lucy asked me while brushing her hair. I just shrugged my shoulders and found a while phone on the wall that connected to the kitchen. I picked it up and put it close to me and Lucy's ears so we could hear. "Daddy, can you please just move them both in Graceland?" I heard Elvis asking him on the phone. "But I promised their parents that they would be staying with me and Dee."Vernon said. "I know that daddy but I just want Nikki close to me and Red wants Lucy close to him. I mean Dodger, the maids, and Patsy will be there to take care of them. They're stricter then you and Dee are. Please, I just want them home." Elvis said with a pleading voice. "Ok, I'll have them pack up their things tommorow and get them settled into Graceland. Just promise me that you'll take care of her . Remember what her father said. "Vernon told him while drinking his cup of water. "Don't you worry about that daddy, you know I will. Thank you so much daddy. Tell Nikki I love her and I'll see y'all tommorow morning. " Elvis said before he hung up. " Alright son, I will. Good night. " Vernon said as he hung up. After Vernon got off of the phone, we walked into the kitchen. "Well I just got off of the phone with Elvis." Vernon said sitting down. "What did he say?" Lucy asked. "Y'all heard that huh?" He asked us. "Yes sir, we did. " I said. "Well y'all know what to do and after we get y'all both settled in, we'll get you both registered into Bayside High school. " Vernon said. "Ok. Thank you so much for taking care of us Vernon." I said giving him a hug. "You've been like a second father to us." Lucy said hugging him. "Alright, enough of the love fest. Let's get some rest. " Vernon said going upstairs. We said good night to Dee and Vernon and headed upstairs to our room. We said our prayers, then fell asleep dreaming about what tommorow would bring.
