"Serpents," Jay's voice echoed through the room and everyone turned to look at her. "As many of you know, this pup has gotten into quite a bit of trouble. With practically everyone," she adds and I look down at my feet. "Normally we wouldn't worry about the safety of a wolf, but someone has managed to convince me to take care of him for now," she says and glances over at Fangs, who's lightly petting my hair. Sweet Pea is sitting next to him, clearly a little annoyed that his boyfriend is petting me. "We have decided to place him under Serpent protection until his eighteenth birthday. He will live with Sweet Pea and Fangs and Toni will be in charge of his transportation to and from school. When he arrives, Jughead and I will watch him along with Cheryl Blossom, Elizabeth Cooper and Archibald Andrews," Jay yells out.
There's a few whispers after she finishes, and I noticed a few shocked gasps when she said Cooper. "You will all be expected to step in and help if needed. And if anyone disagrees with this order, you can return your jacket and get the hell out of her," she yells out before approaching me.
She sits directly across from me and I just stare at her for a minute. "You're kind of terrifying," I say and that makes her smile a little.
"I try my best," she responds.
"Tomorrow is going to suck," I whisper and that makes Jay and Jughead laugh.
"I bet at least one of us gets in a fight with Mantle or one of his many followers," Jughead says with a wide grin.
"Can we try to avoid that? I don't want to be thrown against another locker," I reply, which makes him laugh again.
"Trust me, there's going to be a fight. Especially when he sees you in this," she says and as I see it, it takes everything in me not to slap her.
"No fucking way am I wearing that," I say and she smirks at me.
"You either wear the collar, or you're on your own and we both know how that will turn out," she says and I glare at her but put the collar on.
"You're lucky this is better than getting stuck with Reggie," I whisper and try to adjust to the feeling of it.
While I had accepted that I may have to wear one if Hiram buys me, I sure as hell wasn't ready to do it now. It felt so fucking awkward and I don't know why it felt so god damn tight.
It's not that ugly though. Green and black with a metal name plate with the Serpent logo on it. "Can at least take it off when I sleep," I ask and Jay nods.
"You only have to wear it while you're at school. You can take it off any other time," she says and I quickly pull it off.
"Thank fucking God," I say and rub my neck where it had been.
I can feel eyes on me from around the room. I can tell a lot of the Serpents, especially the older ones, aren't happy about this.
"It's getting late. We should probably head home," Fangs says. I can tell that he knows how uncomfortable I am right now.
"How'd you convince your parents to let you stay with a couple vampires," Sweet Pea asks as we walk to their trailer. I laugh at his question, which clearly confuses him.
"Well, I didn't tell them the truth. I told them Cheryl and I wanted to spend as much time together as we could before I'm too busy with all my Omega duties. I mean my Omega duties are mostly sit still and look pretty until they want to fuck me, but I don't think I'll be let out of the house much," I say and they both stare at me. "Don't worry. They might let you use me if you want. Us Omega's are often shared. Just ask my friend Kevin," I say with a laugh.
They both look a little horrified and I can't help but laugh more. "Well Kevin sleeps with other people because he wants to but some of Reggie's friends have already made some comments about using me when he claims me," I say and shrug a little. "At least I have until I'm eighteen for sure now."
"How does it work when they claim you," Sweet Pea asks.
"While I don't completely know since my friends who are claimed get free will, an Alpha can control you a lot more. My mind will become less capable of resisting commands. If they choose to, I will pretty much become a mindless toy. Not like Reggie or Hiram would want that," I say with a forced laugh. "Okay. Let's stop talking about this. It's not really a fun topic."
...
Fangs had tried to convince me to sleep on their bed. "It won't be that much of an inconvenience. We don't really sleep much and we usually do during the day," he'd said, but I'd refused. Not only did I feel guilty that they were taking me in, but I could tell Sweet Pea didn't really like the idea.
I was already going to have to steal their clothes for at least a few days. I wasn't able to get into my room. All the doors and windows were locked, a note left for me saying that my parents were going out of town for a week. Even if I had gotten in, I'm certain my parents would've noticed the smell of vampire that I'd leave behind. Most werewolves can smell it from far away. It's just not as strong for me for some reason.
I stare up at the ceiling as I lay on the couch. I really did wish I could steal the bed for the night. This couch was so fucking uncomfortable, but Sweet Pea had already made a comment to himself about not wanting their bed to smell like a dog. I don't think he realized that I'd hear that comment.
The thought of returning to school, now under Serpent protection, terrified me. I already saw how it went yesterday. There was absolutely going to be a fight at some point. I mean that's why I'm under Serpent protection isn't it? To keep me safe if another fight breaks out.
I pull the blanket that they'd stolen for me over my body, trying to get some sleep. I hope for a normal dream for once. My dreams have been... weird this last week. They don't even feel like dreams. They feel so fucking real. I close my eyes to try and force myself to fall asleep. It'll be fine. Everything will be fine.
