Delinquency and Delinquents
Delinquency is a social phenomenon, namely an anti-social act involving the interaction between an individual and society. Whereas delinquent is a person who is a child, a younger, a youth whose behavior is forbidden by law, is not accepted by society either and which it feels justifies some kind of admonishment, punishment, or corrected measures in the public interest.
Abandoned child and Neglected child
An abandoned child is one who has no proper parental care or guardianship, or whose parent or guardians have deserted him for a period of at least six continuous months. While a neglected child is one whose basic needs occur on two ways: a) child is malnourished, ill clad and without proper shelter, and b) child is unattended when left by himself without provisions for his needs and/or without proper supervision.
Delinquency in relation to:
A. Home and Family
Characteristics of Normal Homes.
1. Physically complete whereby both natural parents are present
2. There is a social and religious homogeneity in the group. Both of the parents are of the same race and professing the same religion
3. It must be economically stable maintain normal heath working efficiency and morale.
4. Both parents must have the same cultural background
5. There must be physical and psychological normality
6. Moral conformity which mean conformity with the moral of both parents and children with neighborhood
7. There must be functional adequacy
Home Influence on Delinquency :
1. Delinquency caused by a broken home
2. Delinquency caused by conflict of culture
3. Delinquency caused by family contagion
4. Delinquency caused by failure to socialize the child
5. Delinquency caused by emotional tensions at home
6. Delinquency caused by failing to provide sympathetic and understanding confidential relationships
7. Delinquency caused by family disciplinary policies
8. Delinquency caused by injuring the status of the child in the community.
B. School
Causes of Drop-out
1. low socio-economic status of the family where they belong
2. low intelligence of children
3. lack of motivation and related poor performance
4. emotional instability and personal defect
