It was to everyone's releif, Lily Potter made it out okay. She was still quite tramatized and would need to see a healer regularly, but she was okay enough. One thing that always seemed to make her feel better, was doting on Dudely. Things became almost normal at Potter Manor.

A healer had been perminatly assigned to the Potter house as well as a few extra house elves. Lily would wait on Dudley hand and foot. They suspected it gave her something to do.
Though, this sense of normalcy was always on eggshells. The adults learned quickly not to mention Harry around the newly widowed grieving mother, but Dudley had no such qualms.

He loved to ask where the freak was and when he would come back, because he was always told he never would come back. Life is better when you don't have to share.

It wasn't until December that Dudely stopped asking. He realized that whenever he asked, people would stop paying attention to him. They would go quiet or become angry. That wasn't good.
So he stopped asking about his cousin, deciding that it was better if the attention was on him alone. And boy, he loved making sure the attention was on him.

Most everyone was more than happy to serve the savior. Sure his parents were muggles, but he survived the killing curse, so maybe. Quite a few held this dilousional hope and it gave Dumbledore an idea. He was 90% the child would not be a wizard, but he did have the gene inside him through his mother. If that gene could be unlocked...
It would take work as it had never been done before, but Dumbldore had his gears turning.
