Hiccup's POV
Here's the thing. My life? It's awful. I mean, it's not absolutely horrible and unfixable, but it's pretty low. Here's what's happening; my parents work all the time. My mom is an artist and my dad is an engineer. They travel around the world all the time, talking about my dads inventions, or going to expositions where my mom will show her artwork and people from all across the globe will bid on her work. So, since they have pretty good jobs, we're rich, but I hate it. I never get to see my parents, and whenever I do, they have to go to meetings the second they get home! It's awful. Oh, and if that parent thing wasn't bad enough, my names Hiccup. Yeah, I know, worst name ever. My dad thought it would be funny and my mom thought it was cute; a calling to the fact that I'm really small. Yeah, you guessed it; getting picked on, galore! It sucks. There is one silver lining though; my pet. I have a bird. But not the kind of bird you would expect. I have a pet crow, named Toothless. I named him that because when I found him, his beak was cracked, and it looked as if it had been that way for a while. He also had a hurt foot, and his tail was lopsided on one side. Luckily, though, I took him in; since my parents are never around they couldn't say no. Over time; three years to be exact; he healed, and he's now loyal to me only. The crack in his beak is still there, but it doesn't cause him pain anymore. I always try to make him feel better about it by saying he has a "battle scar" or something, to make him feel proud about himself. Oh, and there's one more thing you need to know. I'm sort of, well, crippled. I lost my left leg, from just below my knee to my foot, it's all gone. I had to get it amputated after a boating accident. I used to love the water, but since the accident? Not anymore. I'm terrified of it now. No one can get me in the water. Not after all that. If you're curious, I lost it because I fell in the water while we were riding, and as my dad was coming back to get me, the propeller accidentally hit my leg, and basically ripped it apart. I had to get it amputated; it was so maned they couldn't save it. My dad felt really bad about it for a while, but soon, he let go of it. After i had to tell him over and over that i don't blame him of course; he asked me every day for months, but not all good things last. That was before they got their jobs, three years ago, when i was fifteen. I'm eighteen now, and today's the first day back to school from summer break. Of course, I wasn't a part of vacation this year, not that I ever really have been. Every other kid always gets excited for summer, but not me. Since my parents left, I don't get to spend any time with them, and I can't spend time with friends because, well, I don't have any. Except for Toothless, of course. Man, it's going to be a boring year. Although, i heard our school was getting a new student for this year. I heard it was a girl, didn't hear much else. Oh well, doesn't change my outlook. I at least hope she's nice.
