"Good morning Jisung," Dr. Kim says, greeting him with a bright smile. Jisung was taken aback by the doctor's greeting and his outfit. Jisung had never saw the man outside of his usual doctors attire but today he was wearing a comfortable looking sweater.
"Good morning Dr. Kim," Jisung says in confusion. Both of them take their seats.
"Do you know what today is Jisung," Dr. Kim asks, his eyes sparkling.
Jisung shakes his head. All of the days have blended together and he has no idea what the day is or how many days he's been here.
"Today is Christmas!"
Jisung wishes he could feel the usual spark he did during the festive season but it wasn't there. Though the younger did find his therapist's excitement quite amusing.
"I got you something," the doctor says with a sly smile. This made Jisung perk up. It'd been forever since he had gotten a present.
Dr. Kim walks over to his desk and grabs a small, neatly wrapped box. He sets it in Jisung's lap before walking over to the window.
Jisung slowly unwraps the package, not wanting to ruin the paper. He opens the box just to get his hopes crushed. The only things in the box were gloves, a scarf and a hat.
He looks over at Dr. Kim in confusion and slight disappointment. The doctor gestures for him to come to the window. Jisung rises and walks over.
"Take a look outside Jisung."
Jisung peaks outside at the fresh blanket of snow that covered the normally grassy courtyard.
"How long has it been since you've been outside Jisung," the doctor asks. Jisung shrugs, he couldn't remember.
Jisung longed to go outside again. He wanted to be a normal person again, though that would never happen. Some nights he'd sit next to his window and look up at the moon, yearning to be outside.
Dr. Kim walks to the other side of the room and grabs his coat.
"Follow me Jisung and bring your gift with you."
Jisung grabs all of the items out of the box and quickly follows the older. They walk through the institution. They walk past the front desk ladies, to which Dr. Kim says hello too. They greet him and enjoy the look of amusement on Jisung's face.
"Put all that stuff on Jisung," Dr. Kim says, looking back at him with a smile. Jisung quickly slips on all the equipment.
They reach the exit that goes into the courtyard. Dr. Kim pushes the door open and steps outside, motioning for Jisung to follow.
Jisung steps out, the cold, stinging air hitting his face. He deeply inhales, not having smelt fresh air in who knows how long. He steps farther from the door. He hears it shut behind him but he doesn't pay attention. He was too wrapped up in the fact that he was outside.
He steps out into the snow, enjoying the cold that surrounded his foot. He steps farther and farther until he's out in the middle of the yard. He looks up at the sky, letting small snowflakes fall onto his face. He shuts his eyes and draws back memories from his childhood.
He envisions him and Jaemin playing in his backyard. Their laughter fills Jisung's ears as they make snow angles. The images of snowball fights and snow men fill his head. It all felt so real.
He quickly opens his eyes, looking around for Jaemin. A sharp pain travels through his chest. He falls to his knees as warm tears slide down his cheeks, some happy, some sad.
He slowly lays down in the snow, staring up at the cloudy sky. He begins moving his arms and legs back and forth, making a snow angle.
