Rhys ordered everyone their lunch; some good old carnival hotdogs. Except Lewis. Lewis wasn't hungry. The hotdogs were what you would expect. Cheap, with fake meat, extremely weak mustard and sour tasting ketchup. They collected their food and sat down at a table, watching the many other tourists go by. Some people looked back at them, but that was to be expected. They were youtubers after all, and three people in the group had either grey, pink or purple dyed hair; it was hard to miss.
Ryan purposefully stayed still, letting the sun's rays dry out his clothes a little. Will and Baz started feeding some ducks with the hotdog rolls before realising their mistake as ten more ducks came waddling over, all trying to squawk the loudest to get attention.
Baz and Will decided to eat the rest of the sausage and drop the bread onto the ground. Hope they like ketchup, Baz thought as three or four ducks began kidnapping his roll away to a bush to where it would never see the light of day again. I kinda wish I didn't do that now, Will thought as his stomach made a small rumble.
Lewis ran off to go and play the Five Nights at Freddy's arcade machine once more but returned empty handed.
They left the main park to go to the customer service building where they waited a few minutes for a golf kart to arrive so they could be taken to their lodge. A female tour guide in a purple and pink striped vest suit, black trousers and black boots greeted them, passing over the keys to the lodge, along with some leaflets for special park deals and their pre-ordered V.I.P passes which they really should have got earlier. Everyone put the passes around their necks and followed the lady outside where a kart awaited them.
The tour guide wasted no time in zooming off which caught Lewis and Ryan - who had both just started to climb onto the back seats - a little off guard as the speed threatened to make them fall off. As presumed, Lewis kept the vlog going for a while. He panned around the scenery and recorded himself with Ryan, sharing some jokes and having some random conversations. The younger man couldn't understand why Ryan was being a little tense though. Probably because he just ate, Lewis thought, probably feels a bit sick.
The journey went quickly as the little kart sped through the roads, weaving in and out of the way of passers-by who looked on with jealousy as they walked around with aching legs. Eventually they arrived at the "Enchanted Village", where they would be staying for the next two days. The tour guide explained the layout of the area; there was a café or two, the reception building and of course, the lodges themselves. The large cabins started to come into view and the kart slowed down ever so slightly.
To the left of the road were grassy hills, each one home to a small assortment of weeds, ferns and the occasional tree. To the far right of the road, was an extremely steep slope that almost went down vertical, dropping into a massive woodland area consisting of oak, birch and pine trees. A row of log cabins lined the edge of the slope with the backs of each house being held up by stilts that must have been connected to the vertical slope. Every cabin was connected by a little wooden bridge lined with fairy lights and each one had its own number and name. Lewis quickly began recording again, showing a scenic view of the quaint little cabins as each one passed by.
"I haven't seen any other people in this bit," Will murmured to himself as he watched each empty window go by.
"You are the only people staying in the village at the moment!" the tour guide replied. Will raised an eyebrow, wondering how the Hell she could have heard him over the group's murmurs and the engine's whine, but shrugged it off. The woman continued without hesitation, "In fact, if I remember the schedule correctly no one else is arriving here for another two days. So, until then, scream as loud as you like! No one would ever hear you."
The following silence was deafening.
The tour guide pulled up beside one of the little wooden houses and quickly invited the men to follow her into their new home. The camera panned to the front door, showing off the sign saying "602, Apple Lodge". Putting on her best customer-service-smile as she unlocked and stepped into the cabin, the lady began an over enthusiastic tirade of how magic this place was, how amazing it was to have everyone here, how Alton Towers have done everything they can to bring the magic of imagination to life. The men politely listened, nodding and smiling at every brief pause that was made.
This place though? It was pretty magic for a theme park's accommodation. It had two levels along with a balcony. The first place you walked into was a large multipurpose area. Straight ahead was a set of stairs that led upwards. They didn't go up there, but the tour guide absently stated that there were three twin bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, and that would be where they found their belongings. Just next to the stairs were two doors which led into two other bedrooms, one of them being the master bedroom. To the right of the entrance was a living area with two sofas placed in front of a massive flat screen TV and PlayStation 4 console. There was a coffee table with little statues of woodland creatures on top. To the left was a small kitchen, with a mini fridge, microwave, stove, grill, kettle, sink and quite a few cupboards and drawers. If you went into the far-left corner, there was also a table with six chairs set up around it. Continued straight ahead and you would come to the balcony door. Outside, was the beauty they had been waiting for; the hot tub! The lady showed them how to turn it on and off and change the temperature and stressed the importance of not messing around with the hot tub's cover as it had an automatic lock when closed which could only be opened from the outside.
"Make sure you remember that. Had a dangerous incidence once," she started, her jolly attitude suddenly falling. "Someone in another group thought it would be funny to try and scare their friends as they came back at night by hiding in there and shut the lid on themselves, not knowing about the locking mechanism..." she stopped as she realised everyone was looking at her anxiously.
"We'll remember," Lewis assured her, suddenly feeling a little awkward that he had recorded that whole talk. Giving a quick cough as if to clear her throat, the lady forced a smile and began walking back inside with purposeful strides.
"Well, gentlemen! That concludes the tour! Do we have any questions?" Everyone shook their heads. "Well, if there is anything else my team and I can help you with during your stay, you can ring the Alton Towers reception on your mobile, or alternatively call the Enchanted Village reception using that phone..." she pointed to an old looking phone on the wall, "... and we will help you as best we can. The number is zero-zero-zero, so hopefully it should be easy to remember!"
The men thanked her and said their farewells as she walked back out of the cabin and got back into the golf kart. "Enjoy your stay!" she called out with a beaming grin. She waved and sped away.
The group quickly set off around their new temporary home to claim their rooms, finding their bags and emptying them out into wardrobes and drawers before congregating downstairs to have coffees and teas. Rhys managed to get to the master bedroom fastest. Baz took the other downstairs room. That left Will, Ryan and Lewis a room each at the top of the stairs. It felt a little strange, each person having a room that could sleep two and yet they all spread themselves far apart. Baz mentioned it to the others, but no one really minded.
They sipped their coffees in a comfortable silence, simply enjoying each other's company as they reflected upon the day they had had so far. They all looked at each other and smiled, as if sharing the same thought:
This was gonna be a holiday to remember!
