Unaware of her royal origins, Ava Bateman was raised by a former palace lady in waiting as a commoner following the death of her father, who was thrown out of the palace before her birth.
When the king dies and there is no heir to the throne, the parliament must find Ava and place her on the throne. As soon as Ava's existence is made known, she takes her place as the monarch.
She becomes the people's queen.
