And I understand. I understand why people hold hands: I'd always thought it was about possessiveness, saying 'This is mine'. But it's about maintaining contact. It is about speaking without words. It is about I want you with me and don't go.
Malia kept a small smile on her face as she walked through Kensington Palace well apartment 1a. James and Malia were greeted at the door by the Catherine's secretary then led into a drawing room.
She looked around the room. She saw the paintings and the books and a lot of photos of the Cambridge family.
The faint sound of the door opening grabbed Malia's attention. Malia watched as the Duke of Cambridge smiled and shook the hands of James, and looked straight at her.
"It's a pleasure to meet the beautiful woman who has stolen James' heart. Welcome to my home, Your Majesty." William said, bowing.
"William." James said.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too. Please, just call me, Malia." Malia said.
"Well, Malia, James, Catherine is in the kitchen, so please follow me to the dinning room." William said.
They followed him into the dinning room as Catherine entered with a dish in her hand. Ahe put the dish down on the dinning table before walking over to James, who gave a kiss on the cheek to his sister, and a hug.
Catherine pulled away from James before walking over to Malia, and dip into a cursty.
"Nice to meet you, Your Majesty." Catherine said.
"Please, call me, Malia, and it's nice to meet you too, Catherine." Malia said, shaking her hand.
"Please sit down." Catherine said.
Malia nodded following her to a chair. James took a seat next to her as William and Catherine sat across from them.
"Your English is better than I thought. James said you were Ghanaian." Catherine said.
"No, I'm not Ghanaian. I'm Nigerian. Born in Nigeria actually, my mother's home country but raised in Kravonia, my father's home country." Malia explained.
"I'm sorry. I heard Yoruba was your first language and I assumed-"
Malia cut her off immediately, "It's okay. I know a lot of people get confused about my background." Malia said.
"How many languages do you speak?" William asked.
"Well, there's Yoruba, Igbo, German, French, English, Spanish, Danish, Mandarin, Swahili, Swedish and a bit of Dutch, Arabic, Vietnamese and Luxembourgish." Malia answered.
"That is a lot of languages." Catherine said.
"Well, Strong language skills are an asset that will promote a lifetime of effective communication. Our language is the most important part of our being. I think it is important to learn other languages, otherforms of communication besides our own because it helps us to learn about other peoples and cultures." Malia said.
"See, told you she was a smart one." James said.
"So, how did you two meet?" Catherine asked.
"Well, Malia, was in the city of London on official business when she decided to sneak out and do some sightseeing on her own. After an unfortunate mishap, I was at the right place at the right time and came to her rescue. We spent the next couple of days together enjoying each other's company before I realized her true identity as the Queen of Kravonia." James answered.
"And what he means by unfortunate mishap, I was robbed by some random guy. But thankfully he took nothing major from me." Malia said.
"That's very unique." William said.
"Yes, sometimes we talk about it and laugh because it sounds like a movie." James said.
"Because it does." Malia said, smiling.
"Well, I'm going to be honest with you, Malia, I was trying so hard not to like you but I see how happy you two are together. And that's all I have ever wanted for James, was for him to be happy. So, thank you and I hope we can be friends." Catherine said.
"Thank you, Catherine for your honesty." Malia said.
"We should definitely do this again." William said.
"Yes, we should." James said.
