ESTIMATING EXPECTED DATE OF DELIVERY (EDD): NAEGELE'S RULE
ito yung tinatanong nila, "kailan ka manganganak?"
> Also known as the "due date" or "expected date of birth" (EDB)
> was formerly called the "estimated date of confinement" (EDC)
In determining the EDD, you need to know the LMP (last menstrual period) of your patient.
ANO ANG LMP?
Ang LMP ay LAST menstruation period mo. Halimbawa, ung month na huling nagkaroon ka ay from March 3-8.
Ang LMP ay first day of your last menstruation mo or UNANG ARAW NG HULING REGLASo ang kukunin mo dito ay ang MARCH 3.
Naegele's formula:
• subtract 3 months (for the patients whose LMP is from April to December), add 7 days to the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), and add 1 year.
-3months +7days +1year• add 9 months (for the patients whose LMP is from January to march), and add 7 days to the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP).
+9months +7days
(Zapz' note: for those who don't know how to compute, please write the sample problem on your paper so that you will understand it well)
Sample Problem A:
The given LMP is March 5-10, 2008. The numerical value of march is 3.
month-day-year
3 - 5 -2008
+9 +7
--------------------------
12 - 12 - 2008
EDD: December 12, 2008
Sample Problem B:
The given LMP is June 12-17, 2013. The numerical value of June is 6.
month-day-year
6 - 12 -2013
-3 +7 +1
----------------------------
3 - 19 -2014
EDD: March 19, 2014
Sample Problem C:
The given LMP is December 25-28, 2009. The numerical value of December is 12.
month-day-year
12 - 25-2009
-3 +7 +1
---------------------------
9 - 32-2010
How many days do we have on September? 30, right? Add 1 month and minus 30.
9 - 32-2010
+1 - 30
-----------------------------
10 - 2-2010
EDD: October 2, 2010
(Zapz' note: I would like to discuss the "Estimating EDD: Mittendorf's Rule" but I don't want you guys to be confused. Naegele and Mittendorf have different formulas and if you'll compare it, they have different EDD. But if you want to know about Mittendorf's formula, just message me. Okay?)
Quiz #3: Ready your paper and pen.
1. LMP: May 26, 2014
