Chapter 4
“Hollie Cavanagh, Pregnant!” the headlines read the following day. Hollie was annoyed upon reading it. She was having her breakfast.
“That would be a miracle…” she said and threw the paper in the trash can. “I was just distracting Phillip and Jessica and this is what I got. So disappointing!”
While she and Josh were singing the other day, she could see Jessica and Phillip seemed arguing that’s why she resorted to play pretend to divert their attention. After reading the papers, she wished she could not have done such thing.
Afterwards, the phone rang. She picked it up.
“Hey, Hollie..”
The voice was too familiar. She trembled as Devin flashed in her mind.
“It’s me, Devin. So you’re pregnant? Are you that desperate? Josh is gay!” Devin uttered.
“What?! You believe the news that I’m pregnant and with Josh?” Hollie laughed out loud. “Your statement is false, I’m not pregnant and Josh is not gay!” she shouted.
“Uhmm.. well I guess, you’re right. I saw you yesterday. You were having a great time in your pool. What happened next?” he asked.
“I won’t explain anything to you. Shut up!” she said putting the phone down. She could almost burst into tears. She dialed Josh’s number with her hands shaking.
“Yes my love, I’m on my way…” he replied.
“Devin…I guess Devin is the one responsible for the false headlines on the newspapers…” she said.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already talked to the editor. They want to apologize to you. Someone just fed the story to them.” He said.
“It’s Devin’s fault. He saw us when we were in our yard. He called me up. I’m scared.” She said between sobs.
“Then, let’s report him. Just be calm. I’m on my way.” He said. After her conversation with Joshua, she heard loud noises outside. Her parents were inside their room. It was only the three of them inside the house. She peeped by the window and saw reporters outside their house.
“Yeah right…how could Josh enter our house now?” she said anxiously.
Josh was few blocks nearer to Hollie’s house. From there, he could see media personalities waiting outside. He thought of not going anymore, but he could not do a U-turn because many cars were parked on the streets.
“This is a huge nightmare.” He sighed and decided to continue driving.
Oh my here’s Josh!” he could hear someone shouting. Ideas were popping in his mind. He should prepare and rehearse his responses before facing the annoying crowd.
“Josh...” someone went knocking on his car.
“Hey...” he got out. Everyone was all eyes at him.
“Hello Josh, your presence here confirms your relationship with Hollie.” Reporter 1 said.
“Yes…” he replied.
“So it means she’s really having a baby and you’re the father?” Reporter 2 asked.
“We became official only yesterday, do you think it’s possible?” he smiled.
“So what’s the reason why Hollie fainted?” Reporter 3 asked.
“It was not real. She did it for the sake of our friend’s love life.” He replied. He didn’t want to mention Phillip and Jessica.
