I kept quiet for the rest of our ride, thinking about that woman I saw. But it was so weird, the smile she gave me, it was like one of those small smiles you give to old friends when you see them after a long time and they seem happy and that makes you happy too. But this was the first time I ever saw her, I didn't know her. Right?
I tried to just forget it, but obviously, I was not successful, at all, so I just stayed silent with my thoughts. It was really something out of character for me, been quiet, especially after a visit to grandpa and granny. I usually only stopped talking when I ate or slept, so my behavior was strange and both mom and Arianna noticed.
'Honey, you are unusually silent. What is it?' Mom picked on me using the main mirror of the car, her eyes ever so gentle, but with a hint of worry.
I sighed, I quickly had to figure out something to excuse my behaviour, I couldn't just say "Hey mom, you know I noticed a woman walking and I saw her, she saw me and she smiled to me so I freaked out a bit, cause I've seen too many horror movies for my age and we live in a really weird Universe!" Yeah, wonder how that would have turned out. So, I had to lie. I hatted lying to mom, but I did it this time anyway. Strike No. 1...
'I'm just thinking about the story grandpa told us. It was really weird, Vampires and The Howling Commandos? And lets not talk about this whole thing about his fathers' name been Dimitri and not Apostoli. And does he actually know sword fighting? Do you know sword fighting, cause if you do and are still not allowing me to buy one for myself and learn how to fight, I'm going to be very pissed!'
'No, he doesn't know sword fighting and neither do I. Also know that, the more you ask for a real sword the more you are not getting one!' She took her eyes off the road ahead of her and looked at me throw the mirror with stern look, she was clearly getting tired of me asking for a real sword.
I rolled my eyes, being in no mood to have this talk, again. 'Let's not have this conversation now. The point is, was this story he told us real or not?' At the time, I didn't knew if I wanted this story to be real or not, a part of me was saying this was really crazy, another was fascinated by the idea of it actually been true.
'Of course it is not real. His father was Apostolis, a truly brave man who fought indeed in World War 2 - amongst other wars- but not with Captain America and the Commandos, as he didn't fought anywhere else, but in our country. As for this woman Crystallia, it's the first time I've heard this name in my life and as far as I know there was no such woman in the village. A young woman who knew how to fight with this type of weapons? Women back then fought against the enemies in different ways, mainly using their minds to find ways to bring food and clothing to the men and women in the snowy mountains. And as for the women who fought in the battle field, surely wouldn't choose bows and arrows over a gun. They were using rifles mostly, but also machine guns and even mines! Tho, swords and bows, no.' Her voice was soft once more, as she once again looked at me for a second before turning her attention in frond of her and she chuckled for a bit. 'And thank God for there are no Vampires on this planet! The story your grandpa told you girls, is clearly made up. He knows you love this type of movies so he made up a story to entertain you, that's all.'
'You know how weird it is that you still refuse to believe in Vampires, when at the same time we live in a universe where aliens have invaded Earth and we have superheroes and supervillains everywhere?' I raised an eyebrow to her.
'And don't forget that our Earth is now one with the DC Earth and we have the Justice League flying around the glob, and who knows what else could be happening under our noses!' Arianna sometimes had so excellent points that she almost frightened me. While the rest of us would approach a subject looking at it from a little picture, she always had a big picture and when strait to the important stuff.
