"B-Breezepaw? Is something wrong?" Cinderpaw stammered, tilting her head cautiously. The LeafClan apprentice stopped, her white fur with chestnut markings fluffed up against the cold. Amberpaw stood protectively beside her friend, eyes narrowed. "Breezepaw, I promise, whatever Jaggedstar has told you is a lie."
"Oh, so your parents didn't murder cats? Your parents aren't suffering in the Dark Forest? Your Clan doesn't cross onto LeafClan territory and steal our prey?" Breezepaw hissed, her claws hooking into the ground. Cinderpaw's face fell and her head dropped. Most of that was true.
"Breezepaw, Cinderpaw wishes she hadn't been born to those two killers. It wasn't her fault," Amberpaw retored calmly. "And we haven't been crossing off into your forest. Frost prey tastes terrible! No offence."
Breezepaw stepped back, her gaze hardening as she saw how hurt Cinderpaw looked. She sighed, her eyes rounding with sympathy. As she was about to apologise, when Jaggedstar and Brackenstar lept onto Mountain Rock, Shatteredflame and Gingersplash taking up there positions under the huge boulder. The two oak trees behind it swished softly, drawing a sudden calm over the two Clans. Cinderpaw's pelt itched with hurt and shame. She knew that Breezepaw hadn't meant anything that she'd said, although it still stung like a fresh wound.
Jaggedstar narrowed his eyes, swishing tail as the murmurings of other cats stopped. He cleared his throat, glaring at Brackenstar with cold eyes of piercing ice. Cinderpaw shivered. The black tom blinked before beginging, his voice sharp and harsh.
"Cats of LeafClan and TideClan, LeafClan has been doing not too badly this leaf-fall. Prey has been starting to thin out, although LeafClan remains strong with full bellies." He paused for a moment, casting a glance at a Brackenstar. "However, TideClan has been hunting on our land once again!"
"Liar!" Brindlepool called, her fur bristling.
"We have not set paw on your territory!" Branchshadow objected angrily, claws digging into the ground. Lucky Ferngaze and Skyblaze aren't here, Cinderpaw thought crossly.
"We have stuck to our own territory!" Hazelrain hissed.
"We would not cross another's territory wrongly," Brackenstar spat at Jaggedstar sharply.
"I order you to stop," Jaggedstar growled to the other leader.
"My equal you are, but my equal in battle you are not," Brackenstar said wisely.
The arguments continued, Cinderpaw shouting out every once in a while. Breezepaw blinked, she didn't want to offend her friends once again. She wrapped her tail tightly around her paws, staying silent, head bowed thoughtfully. Cinderpaw's tail was lashing, Amberpaw's eyes were narrowed beside her. Jaggedstar was wrong! TideClan had not crossed his territory once before! Cinderpaw felt a small stab of guilt in her chest, she had run through the forest one time and had appeared at the waterfall, although that waterfall belonged to no-one, anymore.
Jaggedstar lifted his tail, silencing everyone, including Brackenstar. The red-brown tom's fur was bristling with anger, his claws out, digging against Mounatin Rock. He stared at the black leader, eyes narrowed, waiting to hear what he had to say.
"Thank you," Jaggedstar grumbled. "As I was saying, TideClan has crossed LeafClan territory and we can even prove it! We've seen carcasses of mice and squirrel just inside our territory with the scent of TideClan all over them!"
"Oh, please, no TideClan cat would go that far," Brackenstar sniffed hotly.
"Then what do you have to say about your Clan?"
