Amara
I answered a few hellos along the way but couldn't hear much because of the EDM (Electric Dance Music) music blaring through the heavy built speakers. I moved a little way away from the obsessive crowd, almost getting knocked off my feet as bodies packed at all sides of me. A large hand wrapped themselves around my waist to steady my balance and I am thankful for the uncomfortable yet protective action. I moved my eyes up to meet my saviour's ones and I smiled when I saw who the green grey eyes belong to.
"Don't tell me you're drunk already," Lucien comments with a sly grin.
I let out a light laugh, shaking my head. "No, but maybe one shot wouldn't hurt" I shouted over the noise, and he brought his face closer to mines to hear what I said.
I shook my head and stood on my tippy toes to peck his cheek. He smiled down at me and moved his hand up to adjust a strand of hair behind my ear.
I craned my neck to the side to look for Sylvia. Seems like her and I got separated already. Lucien tugged on my arm and guided me to sit on one of the logs around the big fire.
Not even a second passed and I was instantly met with offers of rum and coke. Of course, Lucien had to tell the group of boys off.
"Use your senses god dammit, can't you see she's fucking sick?!" he barked, and I placed a hand on his chest.
"He's probably drunk Lucien. Take it easy," I cooed in his ear, and he sent me a glare.
"Why are you even here? Did Sylvia drag you here? or did she persuade you into coming?" he asked, seemingly annoyed of my presence already.
I arched an eyebrow. "So what? I can't have a life now. Oh, I'm a sick girl! Don't come closer I'm contagious," I floundered sarcastically, "Lucien, there are other ways to enjoying oneself besides drinking," I added.
The atmosphere was a bit chilly. This caused me to let out a shiver, mentally cursing for not walking with a shawl or a sweater. Lucien quickly noticed and immediately took off his sweatshirt.
As I opened my mouth to protest, he shook his head before glancing back at me.
"Chill princess, I have on a T-shirt underneath. Put this on," he ordered, and I pushed my hands through the sleeves and pulled the neck over my head. Unfortunately, the tubes mingled with the same neck piece, and I groaned, unable to help myself.
Lucien let out a chuckle and told me to take a deep breath in. He removed the tubes from my nose and pulled down the rest of the fabric over my body. He placed the tubes back in again and wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me closer into him for additional warmth and protection.
"Marking your territory already Lucy?" a high-pitched voice announced their presence.
Natalina.
"Got a problem?" annoyance seethed through his teeth, but he gave no more attention to her. Instead, his gaze continued to lay upon me. I nuzzled my head against his neck. He moved a few loose baby hairs away from my forehead and placed a long, lingering kiss to the skin. I felt so safe in that moment.
As my eyes connected with Natalina's, her mouth turned upwards into a scowl. She sauntered over to the opposite log next to a girl conversating with Rafael and kept her glare on me.
"Hey guys, this is Amara. Amara this is everyone," Syl announced and everyone except Natalina greeted with a cheer.
"So, Amara, what's your major?" a guy with long jet-black hair sparked conversation.
"Art." I answered plainly.
"I thought you were some kind of charity case," some other fella said, and I felt Lucien tense beside me. I decided to shrug off the comment, however his distasteful comment got under Lucien's skin.
"You're not serious," Lucien spoke too calmly for me to understand his emotions.
"Come on man. You remember Angelica Haine, last year's cancer patient? Didn't think she was the easiest to hook up with. Then again, they're always desperate," the boy smirked, and I had to grip on to Lucien's hot hands to stop him from luring towards the guy.
"Stop it Brad, she is not a charity case. She's my goddamn friend so stop fucking messing around before I make you shut up," Syl barked, causing Brad's smirk to grow.
He eyes Lucien and I and doesn't say anything further for a while.
"So, who's up for a game?" Rafael announced, breaking the tension between Lucien and Brad.
"How about truth or dare?" another girl suggested and looked around the intoxicated adults.
"Isn't that a kid's game?" I asked.
"Not the way we play it," Natalina intimidated and I matched her energy.
"Beer pong?" Brad suggested and Lucien let out a laugh.
"There isn't a table you fucking genius."
"Catch and fuck?"
"Hide and go fuck?"
More ideas were shared, and I kept thinking that they would suggest something that doesn't have sex in it.
I pulled Lucien down to my level by his neck and whispered in his ear, "what is the matter with these people and having sex on a lake?"
He chuckled at my curiousity. "Nothing matters once there's something for us to lay on."
I arched an eyebrow. "Us? Sweet Veronica don't tell me you've had sex here."
"Nope. Do you want us to be the first?" he grinned, and I lightly tapped him behind the head. "You know better."
One of Lucien's friends called him over for a drink so he told me that he will be right back.
"Don't stay too long," I pouted, already missing his presence around me. His hand reached out to brush through my hair, trailing his fingers along my jawline, his gaze piercing mine.
"Do not move. I mean it Amara," before getting up to leave, he placed a kiss to both my cheeks. I was thankful that it was dark and nobody could have properly seen my face.
I nodded in compliance, and he got up to leave.
