With all the tragedies that I could take that week, I was still intrigued with Alabama, it was just such a beautiful place, I couldn’t get enough of it. Right now too, when I was just roaming along side the river the beauty of this place took my breath away. I was still gazing at the deep blue water when Chris popped in my head.
“Gee.” I grunted, this happened a lot to me, sometimes out of no where, his image would just pop in my head and then I almost hyperventilated when I remembered those eyes. I was still thinking of him when my phone rang …
“Hello?” I said.
“Bonjour Madame, how is my favourite girl?” It was April.
“APRIL, oh my god, why did you call me so late?” I shouted at her and she laughed.
“Well I was here consoling your dad and your crying fiancée so it would take me some time wouldn’t it?” She said but I froze.
“Whoa, Michael cried?” I shouted at her and then I heard her laugh, god I hate her.
“Of course he didn’t, you know I like teasing you.” She taunted.
“Yeah right, I’m not talking to you.” I said and to my utter humiliation she laughed again and I gritted my teeth.
“You’ll have to, especially when I’m here in Alabama and waiting at the hotel for you.” She said and I froze in shock.
“WHAT?” I shouted and she groaned.
“I’m here, get your ass to my hotel right now, we have a lot of catching up to do.” She said, I shouted in delight, and then I scribbled the address of her hotel and hung up.
I was ready and very excited to see April, I drove like a maniac but when I reached the hotel, the table was empty, I looked around but there was no sign of April anywhere.
April was late, she was very very late. She’s so had it from me now. After one whole week she calls me and then orders me to dinner and now, here I was ALL alone and she was 45 – freaking – minutes late. I mean how rude that was. I dished out my mobile and called her. Voicemail.
“April if you don’t get your ass down here in the next 10 minutes I’m so outta here.” I said and snapped the phone shut.
I was having my 7th glass of champagne and waiting for her. She was so in trouble, some friend she was.
“All right. This is it.” I muttered and gathered my things. I was so out.
“Caramel.” A voice drawled and I whirled around only to freeze in shock.
“Chris.” I gasped and blinked. It was him. Oh my god!
“Hey.” He said cheerfully and I gulped. Gee, the effect he had on me, butterflies were singing ‘alleluia’ in my stomach.
“Hi, what are you doing here?” I blurted and he smiled.
“I came to see some friends here, we were just going when I saw you sitting here alone … glaring into your glass.” He said and grinned. I swooned and grabbed the back of my chair for support.
“Oh.” Was all I could say. Hells bell what was wrong with me?
“So … why are you sitting here all alone on a Friday night?” He asked and all my annoyance came rushing back.
“I was supposed to meet my friend and she’s late that’s why I was waiting.”
“I’ll say from the look of you that this friend of yours is in trouble.” He said and winked at me; attracting attention to his grey eyes and like the last time I was mesmerized by them. They were so deep.
