I made my way from the showers to the changing rooms, wrapped in a towel. I had just finished training in the make-shift gym and decided to take a relaxing shower. I didn't practice my abilities much, due to the fact that I disliked having to rely on them in battle.

My abilities consisted of incredible speed and heightened hearing and smell. It was an odd combination, but useful. Obviously, when you're the fastest person in any room, you can easily search through IDs and wallets to check identities without anyone noticing. Heightened hearing is useful too though, as I can often hear not only what others can't, but also things that are far away. Finally, although smell may seem like a bizarre 'gift', it dubbed me a friend of the science department due to my ability to sniff out different chemicals and poisons, as well as tracing different people and things by uncovering a trail through scent. The S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists liked to call me the Bloodhound, and sadly the name caught on.

After putting on some clothes and my favourite red leather jacket, I headed out into the maze that was the shield base. It was huge and had been set up around the crater created by the hammer. The surroundings were abundant in vehicles, trailers and barricades. Many armed guards manned the main gate of the razor wire fence that ran fifty miles from the crater's edge, surrounding the whole complex.

I walked through one of the clear, plastic access tubes that led to the centre of the facility, where a team of scientists were using high-tech machinery to analyse the hammer. I could see Coulson through the glass walls of the base's command trailer, where he was directing a group of technicians.

I smiled softly. Although it was a dangerous job, it was really an honour to be a part of this universe. Besides, everything was peaceful for now.

"...once I have Mjolnir, I will return what they stole from you..."

I frowned, hearing a gruff, foreign voice. Tucking my (h/l), (h/c) hair behind my ear, I strained to hear more of the conversation.

"...walk in, grab our stuff, and walk out!"

That was the voice of Jane Foster.

"No. I'm going to fly out," the man's voice returned.

I heard him move. It sounded like he was getting closer. My eyes widened as realisation struck. He was coming here. And it sounded like he came not only for Jane's research, but for the hammer too.

I started running to Coulson's office and smashed the emergency button on my way. Of course, the alarm only started ringing once I arrived in the room with the other agent and finally slowed to a natural pace.

"Agent Y/L/N?" he asked, worry evident on his face.

"We have company," I replied, walking towards the security camera footage. I watched through the screen as a tall, muscular man with shoulder-length blond hair and a matching beard approach the fence. It seemed he'd taken out a couple of agents already.

"Y/L/N."

I glanced up at Coulson.

"Someone's here. I don't know who or... what, but it's got a heat signature and it's moving fast."

"Can I see the image?" he asked.

I nodded and stepped out of the way, but the screen shut off. Coulson groaned, while one of the techies explained that interference from the hammer was causing our tech to malfunction. Coulson looked at me.

"Wait in the shadows, watch the hammer. I'll tell you when to move in," he said, going straight into fight-mode.

I nodded briskly, before speeding out of the room. Once I reached the hammer, I noticed my drenched hair and mud-covered boots. It looked like it had started to rain. It was a thunderstorm, in fact.

Over the radio, I heard Coulson order DeLancey and Jackson to go check out the surrounding area. After a few minutes, a reply came through from Jackson:

"Looks like we're good here. Must have been another coyote."

I shook my head and was about to reply when DeLancey came through.

"Actu-" he started, but the sound was cut off. A massive crack of lightning illuminated the night sky above me. I looked at my radio nervously.

"DeLancey? Jackson? Come in," I said. "Are you alright?"

Silence.

Suddenly, a different voice came through the radio.

"Agents down! We've got a perimeter breach!"

I looked around me warily. The security lights only faintly illuminated the tubes, so I could hardly see. I could hear the struggle outside, however, as more and more agents were taken down. I wanted to help, but I couldn't ignore a direct order. I chewed on my lip anxiously.

I saw the guards around the hammer run towards the main entrance as they tried to stop the mad man. I knew he would be here soon, and I wasn't sure if I could stop him alone. I looked at my radio again, knowing what I should do.

"Barton, we need eyes in the air, now. There's a crane bucket to give you a boost."

"On it."

The other agents were more frantic now. Their numbers kept dwindling as more and more of them entered the tunnels to stop the man. I saw the crane holding Barton swing over the structure while he aimed with his bow.

"Barton, talk to me," I muttered.

"One shot, one kill, kid. Just give me the word."

I watched as he took down the rest of the agents and started making his way towards me until a huge agent punched him across the face.

The man grinned.

"You're big!" he exclaimed. He sounded English, but I was unsure of where he could have come from. "I've fought bigger," he continued, before throwing himself at the man.

The two of them tore through the wall of the facility, into the mud. Barton kept his aim on the man, and I prepared myself for a fight. I watched as the man delivered a final blow to the agent before making his way back up towards me. I approached him slowly, hoping to use the element of surprise as an advantage

As he approached the hammer, it started to glow brighter. I paused, my interest piqued. He reached out to it confidently.

"Barton, hold your fire," I whispered. The man seemed too distracted to notice me.

I watched in anticipation as he wrapped his hand around the hammer and pulled...

But to no avail.

He seemed confused at first but grew increasingly frustrated. He screamed from the effort before collapsing onto the ground in disappointment. I was disappointed, too.

I stepped out of the shadows and approached him. He looked up at me but didn't say anything.

I grabbed my radio once more. "Ground units, move in. Show's over."

He didn't seem to notice or care about the agents who moved in around him. I rolled my eyes and punched him the face with a speed so great he was knocked out instantly.

"Sorry bro, I couldn't let you do any more damage," I explained, looking at the extensive damage that was caused.

"Okay, let's go... tie you up, I guess."
