The next few months are a blur. Our first album released, and mayhem commenced. Somehow it shot to the top, and the tour was looming over me, a threat and a gift. Things were changed too fast, and my endless time with Raine was ending.
"Guess what," she called me while we were promoting our album at a radio station. I had exactly two minutes to talk to her before we went on.
"What?"
"I got promoted to soloist!" she practically yelled, and I could picture her hopping slightly, beaming like there wasn't a care in the world.
"Soloist," I tried to sound as enthusiastic, but it was just another thing tying her here and pulling me away. I hadn't told her about the tour yet, and it was less than a month away.
"What time do you think you'll be home?" she asked, not picking up on my insincerity. "I want to celebrate."
I looked at the boys, who were nodding at me to hurry. "Probably late."
"Okay, well, I have to go in early tomorrow. Dinner tomorrow?"
I groaned. "Can't, we have a gig on some show."
Raine sighed. "I'm not free again till Friday."
"I'm not free until Saturday."
"I have a private session then."
"Saturday night?"
"My parents are hosting this gala, I can't miss it."
Ashton reached out and took my phone. "I'm sorry, Raine, but Luke has to go…Yes, I'll tell him…Bye." He clicked off my phone and handed it back to me. "She said to come to her apartment when you get back, and that she loves you. Now come on."

I knocked on the door to Raine's apartment at about twelve that night, my head still ringing. I waited for a few minutes before the door creaked open, and Raine rubbed her eyes at me.
"Hey," I shrugged, waiting for her to open the door wider and let me in.
She crossed her arms and leaned against the doorframe. "How much longer are you going to be here?"
My heart clenched. "What?"
Raine looked down at her bare feet for a moment. She was wearing one of my plaid button-ups that had gone missing, and she tugged the hem down on her thigh as she spoke. "Calum texted me and let it slip. You're leaving for a tour."
"I was going to tell-"
"Luke," she looked back up at me, her eyes threatening tears.
I sighed and looked down at my feet. "Let me in, Raine. We can talk about it."
"What's the point? You're going to be gone for seven months; what's there to talk about?" her voice shook.
"I can't-"
"I know you can't get out of it. I know. What I don't know is how I'm going to fit in your new life. How are we going to make this work if we can't even make time for each other when we live five feet away from each other?"
I didn't have an answer. She bit down on her lip. I could feel the growing distance between us.
"I love you," she said quietly. "I love you, Luke. But I don't know how to do this."
