I woke up finding the world I had known to be gone. Instead, the sky was glowing. I stood up. Nothing had happened to the child, I was as perfectly pregnant as before. The sky seemed to be full of glittering objects floating around, that on further inspection were glowing specs. There were no trees, no buffalo, just endless hills that seem to go on and on.
Off in the distance stands Robert. I try to wave at him as he searches for me by his horse, but he is unable to see me. I stumble towards him, being immediately overtaken by clouds. Then, I regain my footing, before stumbling back again back onto the landscape. There appears to be a large eye in the hill next to me - it's large pupil is taking in my features.
I am so startled! Jumping back, I run across the field. I then hear loud, pounding footsteps.
A giant makes his way across the field. He is going in such a hurry, as if he means to catch up with something, muttering about "having to get to battle, but first need a snack" or something. He is about to step on me, then disappears, his figure fading into the wind.
I blink my eyes a few time before heading to the top of the hill. Looking over, I see another alley where there is another one of those eyes. Despite being far away, I can tell that it is staring back directly at me, as if it were judging my reaction.
There is a village of Indians far away. I can see it as Henry Plummer and his bandits plow through it, setting it afire. The flames engulf me for a second, filling my lungs with smoke and making me cough. I close my watery eyes, and then, the smoke clears.
Chief Joseph was now a kid, standing next to his father, staring ahead.
"But father, why does sister have to turn into a tree?"
"Every hundred years, the Great Spirit choses one of his sacrifices so that he can have a companion."
I stare, horrified, as I see the struggling girl thrashing to get free as her legs turn to tree bark. Her eyes start to glow."My body is returning to my mother earth, and my spirit is going very soon to see the Great Spirit. When I am gone, think of your country. You are the chief of these people. They look to you to guide them. You must stop your ears whenever you are asked to sign a treaty selling your home. A few years more and white men will be all around you. They have their eyes on this land. Never sell the bones of your father and your mother" booms his sister.
Then, I see it, the mouth. It smiles broadly, as if to sigh, and then says, "A treeee."
Suddenly, bark started to entwine itself around my legs and arms. I shouted at the entity to stop, but it was too late. The bark covers my eyes, rendering me to blackness, and swallowing me whole.
It is then that my eyes are a lit with fire. I can understand everything as I stare at the stars - the sheer loneliness of being an interdimensional being forced to ultimate knowledge without a companion. With him I will work at provide, gathering all discord in the universe with my human knowledge and his infinite wisdom. We will solidify all discord, gathering all lost souls into an unmistakable one.
