Chapter 24
The next couple of weeks were uneventful. Which was a great thing as far as I was concerned. My Mother and Frank were to busy trying to find another place to live than to bother with my brother or me.
Eventually they found a house they liked in a small town almost an hour away. Frank and my mother were going to go look at it that evening. While they were gone I was supposed to be hanging out with my brother and some girl to make sure they didn't do anything inappropriate. Not that me being there would stop them from kissing or anything. Oliver would just make me turn my head.
The girl got to the house about 10 minutes after Frank and my mother left. She was really skinny. A dark blonde with blue eyes. The girl would be pretty if it wasn't for her big nose and her long lips. For some reason I just couldn't get past them as I watched her get on the trampoline with Oliver and me.
"Sonnie this is my sister Brooklynn," Oliver introduced.
"Hi, " I said. I was trying to be polite instead of just ignoring her, but I didn't really care. To be honest I just wanted to go inside and read.
"Hey. So what do you guys want to do? " I was a little shocked she included me in it. Usually it was a 'we're doing this. If you don't like it we don't care' type of thing when I was with my brother and his friends.
Oliver glanced at me then looked back at Sonnie. He looked thoughtful for a second before he decided, "Well we have to stay here since neither of us have a key to get back inside. And last time I tried to break I. To my house I broke a window. So leaving is out. But we could chill on the trampoline for awhile?"
Sonnie looked at me to see what I thought. I just shrugged my shoulders. It was a nice day out after all and it's not like there was much else to do. Instead of replying Sonnie just laid back on the trampoline and looked up at the few clouds.
We all just got comfortable and started talking. Oliver and Sonnie more so than me but I didn't really mind. Every once in awhile one of them would include me in the conversation. Not once did Oliver and Sonnie try to kiss. Making me much more at ease. Once in a while we would jump until we ran out of breath. Oliver would usually run out faster since he kept making us get off to the side so he could do flips.
By the time we called it quits it was dark out and the adults were back home. Sonnie used her cell phone to call her mom to come pick her up. After she left Oliver and I were heading back inside.
"So is she your girlfriend? " I questioned Oliver.
"Who? "
I starred at him blankly, "Ummm... That Sonnie girl. Who else would I be talking about? "
"Oh. No." He finally snapped out of it after a moment and answered me. "She just had nothing to do and couldn't get back inside her house until her mom got home."
"Oh OK."
"Besides I'll probably never hang out with her again since we're moving," he said like it was nothing. I looked at him suspiciously. There was no way this wasn't a big deal to him.
At that point we made it back to the front of the house inside. My mother and Frank were there drinking at the table already.
As we opened the door my mother turned towards us. "Come here for a second. Both of you. "
We both went to sit at the kitchen table and looked at her expectantly. She hesitated before telling us what was going on. "So. I know you won't have a problem with any of this Brooklynn. But... you might," She said looking at Oliver. I saw Oliver immediately tense as she continued. "We found a place to move to. We're moving right away this weekend. "
My head snapped to her direction. "But. Today is already Thursday!"
My mother looked at me calmly. She already knew I wanted to move. I was just worried about the amount of time we had. "I know. That's why you're not going to school tomorrow. "
Oliver finally snapped. I knew it would happen by the end of this conversation. "I can't even say goodbye to my friends!?"
Frank started paying attention to what was going on at this point. He was just waiting to have a chance to discipline his way. I tried to give Oliver a warning look so Frank wouldn't hurt him. He seemed to catch on when he was a lot more in control when he spoke again. "Where are we moving? "
My mother seemed surprised at the sudden change in his attitude but decided to answer both questions. "First off, we decided to let you go to school here Monday in order to return school books and what not. So you can say goodbye then. We'll pick you up after school. And second it's the place we went to go look at today. It's not to far. You can always visit with your friends if they'll come get you. "
"Fine." Oliver got up and walked out of the kitchen. I just sat there waiting for someone to freak out that he walked away without permission.
Instead my mother spoke to me calmly, "Brooklynn go start packing. Tell your brother to start too. You can have whatever for supper. I think there's still chicken in there. "
With that I took the opportunity to get out of there. I'd eat later.
I was so excited to get out of this town I couldn't sleep. I stayed up all night packing my entire room. As I packed I even went through everything and still finished that night. After that I moved on to the bathroom and packed all of my stuff from in there that I wouldn't need by the end of the weekend. The sun was coming up by the time I passed out on my bed. My clothes and everything were still on. The only thing I bothered to take off were my socks.

The entire weekend went like that. We would all help pack things in the various rooms. Then at night I would help my brother pack his room. He had a lot more things than me and wasn't willing to part with anything that wasn't trash to begin with. On top of that his room was a disaster area to begin with. He would pass out on his bed long before I would give up on his room for the night and go to my own bed.
We spent most of Sunday putting things in the new house. We didn't finish that night though so we had to miss the first couple classes of school to finish up whatever Oliver and I could help with. Needless to say Oliver was so not happy with that.
Monday in school seemed to drag on. In the beginning of each class I would return each book from that class. The rest of each hour was spent with either the teachers getting mad because other students were asking about me moving while the teachers were trying to give a lesson or I would just be sitting there day dreaming since I no longer needed to do any of the school work here.
During study hall I walked to the morning classes I missed to return my books then after that all of my library books. When I walked into the library Sonnie was sitting at a table with a few guys that I've seen around but didn't know. When she saw me she instantly called me over to her.
"Hey do you want to hang out after school with us at the mall? " She asked me.
"Oh. Um. No thanks. I can't actually. This is my last day here. We're moving. I just came to return my school stuff." I was pretty shocked she asked me.
"Oh. Well call me after you're done moving. Give me your arm."
I gave her a weird look, but listened anyways. In big numbers Sonnie wrote her number out on my arm. Yeah I needed to get that off before Frank saw it.
By the time I finished scrubbing my arm I was bleeding in multiple places. The worrying part was... That I kind of liked it.
