Anthony was sitting on a bench just outside of my house, waiting for me so we could take our walk. He gave a friendly wave and grinned at me. I smiled back.

"Hey Maggie! Where do you want to go to?"

I had to think about this question for a minute or two.

"Maybe we could just go and get some ice cream."

"Sounds good to me, Mag."

The boardwalk was so full of life and excitement. There are so many different people doing their own things, minding their own business, and just having a good time.

Sometimes I like to imagine what is happening in their lives. Just by looking at some people you can tell what they are going through, like whether their lives are going perfectly or if things are all going downhill.

That's not always the case though. I mean, just by looking at me you wouldn't guess that my mother is having trouble paying the bills for our beach house.

Once we arrived at The Frosted Spoon, I ordered a death by chocolate and Anthony got a mint chocolate chip.

We chose to sit at a table outside underneath a big, colorful umbrella. Anthony looked at me and asked,

"How's your mom doing?"

I sighed.

"Not too good. It's getting harder and harder every day to pay off the bills. I try to help, but I don't have too much money either."

Anthony seemed very upset. He always did when I told him bad news like this. He deeply cares about me.

"I'm sorry about that, Mag. Is there anything I can do to help?"

I gave a soft chuckle and said,

"No, not really Anthony. Thanks for trying, though."

He had a small smile on his face.

"No problem."

We finished up our ice creams and started to walk towards the beach. Eventually, we found the perfect spot to watch the sun go down. It was way too early though. The sun wouldn't be setting for a while now.

"I'll be right back." Anthony said. I nodded and he jogged off the beach.

I decided to start building a little sandcastle just in front of our blanket. It wasn't half bad. I even collected some shells to decorate with.

Not too much later Anthony came running towards me with something in his arms.

"Want to surf for a little bit?"

He looked down at my tiny castle.

"Nice castle."

I laughed a little and said,

"Sure."
