This Killjoy Has A Bulletproof Heart

Deja Vu

"Look at that." Ray pointed at the window. We all look out and see a motorcycle approaching. Shit. Another one? Really?

Grace and Aileen ran to the bunks where Mayra and Gerard were still asleep.

"Wake up!" Grace and Aileen's shouts had certainly woken up Mayra and Gerard.

The rest of us ran outside with our bandanas on and ray-guns at hand.

It felt like...Deja Vu.

A motorcycle.

A guy in a helmet.

I turned and saw Gerard and Mayra join us. Gerard goes and helps Mikey pull the guy off the motorcycle.

Once the guy's helmet was off, I had a clear look of his face. A large scar was engraved in his forehead and he had a bit of a stubble. He looked like...

"Stop!" Evelyn's yell startled me and she ran towards the guy. She kneeled by him and engulfed him in a hug. What the fuck? I think all the beans got to Evelyn's head.

Mayra, Aileen and I walk towards the guy. His face becomes clearer and I know who it is instantly.

"Ed!" I exclaim as I see our old friend. He was more like a brother, actually. We all bombard him with hugs and tears escape our eyes. We finally got our big brother back. We all thought we had lost him for good when he disappeared.

Ed, Aileen, Evelyn, Mayra and I had planned on escaping together. Ed disappeared. Our parents got brainwashed and it was a matter of time that they would have gone after us. We had to leave. We had to leave him behind.

Evelyn explains to the guys who he is. They introduced themselves and we went inside the diner to give Ed some beans.

Frank smiled sweetly at me when he saw how happy I was to see Ed.

After he was done with his beans, we got to the question that has been in my head.

"Well..." Aileen says, "Are you going to tell us how you got un-brainwashed? Or what?"

"First of all." his voice was still the same as remembered it, "I never got brainwashed. That day we were going to escape, the dracs took ahold of me. They somehow found out we were all escaping and..." he stopped and looked down at his lap, "They pressured information out of me. But I didn't tell them anything because you guys are my sisters..."

I saw Evelyn move away from Ray and towards Ed, put her arm around him.

"And.....well....I and some other killjoys managed to escape. But we parted ways. A long time ago." his eyes watered and he started to cry.

There was this weird feeling around all of us.

"I came here." he said. "I want revenge." his eyes showed anger and determination. I looked at Frank and he hugged me to him.

"I'm a Killjoy. My name will be Danger Bomb."

After he finished eating, we cleaned up and went to play checkers. It was Mikey versus me.

Evelyn had went to talk to Ed and Ray sat around bored, with his hands in his pockets.

"Come play checkers with us." I told him.

"Nah." he answered and went inside the room, slamming the door.

"Woah. Looks like someone's jealous." Mikey said. I nodded in agreement and put my attention back to the the checkers in front of me.
