I forced my eyes to shut tightly, not wanting to believe any of this is actually happening right now.
"Rose, don't be a glum. Stand up and introduce yourself." I peeked a little and my dad was giving me a look, he raised an eyebrow and pushed his head to the front, signaling me that I should introduce myself to the so called stranger. A sigh escaped my mouth and I stood up, brushing the ends of my dress to kill some time before facing William West.
I twisted my head and there he was, looking as astounding as ever with a neat bow-tie, an expensive tux, beautiful structures. His eyes looked slightly golden under the dim light of the dark restaurant. He glowed and gave me the best fake smile.
"Nice to meet you Rosalie, um, I mean Rose." He cleared his throat, offering a hand for me to shake.
"Likewise, William." I did not shake his hand, instead I just twisted my body and took my seat, my dad just shook his head and Tim chuckled.
"Alright, lets eat! i'm starving!" Tim announced.
We ate our meal ravenously and neither one of us said a word. I for once took the time to just stare at my food and pick up a lettuce once in a while. My dad would ask me why i'm not eating properly and i'd tell him I was savoring my food. William would look up at me once in a while while he's chewing his food, when our eyes meet we both would break contact immediately, looking sideways or to the ceiling when we do. Once we're done with out meals, I was expecting a farewell and a drive back home, but nope. My dad and Tim were laughing and talking about the most random of things.
"Isn't it great? We live side by side now, and when I go fishing, you'll have company!" My dad encouraged.
'Not working, dad.' I mouthed him, his eyebrows just drops and he gave me the sympathetic look, meaning should be happy for him. I sighed and joined in the conversation, William was so alive tonight, he seemed really enthusiastic and bright. Almost like he was happy about the idea of us living so close to each other.
"Hey Rob, there's a bar right down the aisle. Lets catch up while the kids could talk here." Tim offered, my dad did not looked at me once and he brusquely stood up, joining Tim.
"Be careful, dad. Not too much. You know what, I should come with you." I stood up and my dad was looking down at me.
"Rose, you're staying. I'll be fine, it's just a couple of beers and I'll be home soon. Promise."
Dad never talked back before - it was almost like I was mom right now, but that didn't matter. I have to. If it wasn't for me, then who? If not now, when? It'd be too late by then. Frustrated, I slumped down on my chair and looked down, not meeting any eye contact at all.
"Rose.." He started, I did not say a thing.
"Rose, say something, please. This is freaking me out."
Nothing.
"What did I do that could possible make you so upset with me?" He sighed, trying again.
"You worry me, how could you left without saying anything?" I debated.
"You were the one who left without saying anything to me!" He barked back.
"Well you did not even say anything afterwards, I was looking for you." I replied, barely audible.
"You were? Why?" He asked.
"Well, because..I don't know! It just worries me that a friend I just made would disappear like that," I paused for a while there, "It's been a while since i've made any, and I was afraid you didn't like me that quickly, so I wanted to look for you and be there for you, you know, as a friend." William stood up and grabbed the seat next to me, he intertwined both his hands together on his lap and looked at me through batted eyelashes.
