I cried myself to sleep for everyday of the week ever since I got here. The tears were pouring out continuously, soaking the pillow under me and smudging the mattress. I slipped on a pair of socks and tiptoed my way out since dad’s still asleep. He sounded peaceful and sound, like nothing could ever harm him. I kissed him softly on the cheek and opened the door, walking out. The trail was damp and moist after the heavy rain. It’s been a week since I’ve been here, and the rain hasn’t stopped once. Because of that, dad and Tim have been staying indoors. Dad couldn’t walk well so he was suggested to stay in bed for most of the time. Being daddy, he was hesitant and ended up forcing himself to walk. He fainted after a few steps and the doctor was busy, we had to wound him up ourselves. He woke up that night but he couldn’t speak well, so he went back to sleep. I love taking care of him the way he took care of me, but the pain in watching him grieve like this was unbearable – I couldn’t help it.
I needed some fresh air, and I found a set of swing in the middle of two huge trees. They were made out of wood and the swings itself were rusty. I sat on one and started swaying slowly. Closing my eyes and feeling the rhythm to its squeak, I hummed a lullaby in which I remembered my mum singing to me when I used to get scared of her leaving me.
“Baby girl, so dear to me
I’m always here, don’t worry
Even when you can’t see me, I’ll always be
Watching over you, from up above.
Oh, my darling, so precious
Fear’s in you, be cautious
It’s dragging you away to the darkness
But the light will always be there to witness.
And soon, that light will be me.”
It was so short, yet it pours out such meaning. That lullaby was everything to my mum, and me. A twig snapped and I darted my gaze to a dark figure trying to remove something from its sole.
“Rose? Is that you? What are you doing up this early?” Roy stepped into the light and I flinched. His face was covered in mud and he wasn’t wearing his fishing had from the first day we met him. He’s always used it wherever he went. He had a large salmon on his hands and a missing boot. I figured it’s been hours since I’ve stepped out of the cabin, it must’ve been dawn.
“Couldn’t sleep. What have you been doing?” I asked, Roy chuckled and placed the large fish on a stump.
“I was reeling in fishes, there are tons out this time of day.” He removed the other boot and took the seat of the swing next to me.
“Let me guess, it ate your boot?” Roy frowned.
Sorry.” I chuckled, I placed both knees on my chin and he let out a sigh.
“How are things? Is your dad alright?” I grimaced, I told him everything that had happened a few days ago and he sat there listening to every word. He let his hand run through his jet black hair and let out a low whistle.
“Damn, sorry about that..” His blue eyes were dull and droopy – he hasn’t gotten enough sleep. I could see that.
“Are you alright? You seem a little off.” Roy turned his head to avoid eye contact with me.
“Alright, sorry.. If you don’t want to-“
“I kissed her.” My eyes grew wide and a smile crept up my lips, beaming.
“Luna? Oh, Roy, that’s great!” I stopped the excitement and cleared my throat.
“Then why are you so upset about it?” Roy stood up and gathered his things.
“She was a little shocked by my action and she’s been avoiding me ever since… I don’t know what to get from that, I mean, I always get the girl.. But with Luna, she’s… Different, and when she reacted that way, it was new to me. I didn’t know how to react to that and now.. I’m just so clueless. I’ve been trying to get her to talk to me and just yesterday she told me she’s leaving soon.” He took the salmon and slung it behind him.
“I need to fix things up with her… You’re her friend, what can I do to convince her that I’m not some kind of creep?” The smile was etched on my face the whole time.
“You like her….” Roy’s eyes grew wide and he turned his back to me.
“No way in hell. She’s cute, but.. Well.. I…” I laughed and a rosy blush crept up the apples of his cheek.
“Rose.” I stopped bawling and stood up.
“Roy, she’s the type of girl who’s innocent on the inside but feisty on the outside. She certainly looked like one of those intimidating girls you’ve seen ruling schools, right?” Roy nodded once and let out a throaty laugh.
“Well, she’s nothing like that. She’s pure innocent, no boy history whatsoever. So you got to take it easy, let low.. Make her feel good and tingly inside.” He lifted an eyebrow and gave me a weird look.
“Not that way!!” He let out yet another laugh and we took this time to get to know each other better.

As I stepped in the lodge, I sat on the couch where William was fast asleep. I kissed his lips slowly and his eyes fluttered open.
“I wish I could wake up to that every day.” I laughed and kissed him again, deeper this time. His hands traveled under my shirt immediately, caressing my spine.
“I…” William was out of breath by the time my top was unbuttoned. I continued to tousle his hair until they were as wild and messy as it was right after he woke up.
“S-say it..” I gasped for air and he kissed my neck tenderly.
“Morning kids!” I jumped off abruptly and William wrapped himself under the blanket. I buttoned my shirt thoroughly and brushed down my hair.
“Hi Tim.” He gave me a toothy smile and made himself some coffee.
“It’s finally sunny. A hot morning!” I glanced over at William and he smirked at me, laughing.
