Luna agreed to follow me in this trip and the two of us hopped in the car.
"Getting better hm?" I glanced at Luna and she wiggled her eyebrows, giving me a cheeky smirk. I laughed at her and rolled my eyes. William took both our bags and tossed it in the trunk. When he was done, he shuffled around the car and hopped in.
"You girls ready?" We buckled our seat belts and I struggled to fasten mine, William stopped fastening his and chuckled, slowly lifting my hands and pulled the belt to fasten it in the lock. He looked up while he was fixing it for me and I couldn't help but blush.
"If you guys ought to get touchy real quick, I could go with my own car," Luna placed both her hands up and gave a little shake. William quickly got his hands in place and it was back on the stering wheel.
After two long hours of drive, Luna fell asleep in the back while I was looking out the window. Different scenarios of my dad being sick and weak during the trip made my heart wrench, I bit my lip to keep the tears already welled up in my eyes to spill - I didn't want to be a fuss to William, he's got to handel lots of things already, and with me in the way... I'm just a distraction.
Is that all I am to him though? Maybe he'd be better off without me... He's got his scholarship and all, what will there be left of me? If I don't have William, how can I live? Two fingers hooked my chin and slowly rotate it, William's eyes were on the road but his hands were on mine.
"What're you thinking so hard on?" He takes small glimpses of me and the road at times, he's trying to seek my emotions through my eyes.
"William, am I a distraction to you?" The car nearly came to an abrupt stop, now his hands were on both steering wheel, gripping hard. His knuckles were turning white.
"Why on eart would you ever think of it that way?" He asked through gritted teeth.
"Face it William, when you go for football training I can't be there for you, I have to look after daddy. And you won't be as free anymore, you'll be training hard each day and soon.. We won't see each other anymore." Now the car did come to a stop. Luna groaned in the back and craned her neck on the armrest.
"Baby, that's still a long way ahead.. And besides, i'm not going to pick football over you. It's you first. Always will, always has been." Shivers ran down my stomach, forming knots.
"I can't let you do that... Your career is important to you, to me too. This is your life, I just... I don't know what I can do without you around, it'll drive me insane." William's pinched features formed goosebumps, he didn't seem to like what I said.
"This is my decision, Rose. And I'm pretty confident with what I'm chosing." He made a quick turn to the left and we reached a cozy lodge. He stopped the car and brought his hand up to caress my cheek. His hands were radiating with heat, instantly warming me up. I closed my eyes and fell to his touch.
"You have no idea how much you mean to me, Rose. Every single thing about you drives me crazy - I can't imagine what life would be like if you're not in it. You hold me, and you control me, Rosalie Thorn."
Luna sat up and yawned loudly, look over the window, her eyes grew wide.
"W-who's that?" She asked. I looked over at the window and there was a lean guy who was topless and was holding a large tuna on his hands. His whole body was soaked and Luna was drooling over him,
"That's Roy," William said, unfastening his seatbelt.
"He was the fisherman who found Rose's dad on the deck that day, if it wasn't for him, who knows what would have happened to Rob." I winced, but none of them saw. Luna flee from the car and she was already talking to Roy. Roy's shaggy black hair made his blue eyes stand out, Luna flipped her brow hair and they walked away together.
"That escalated quickly," William whistled. He got both our bags out and I headed inside the lodge. I knocked softly before entering, a doctor answered the door for us and I kept a close eye on him.
"May I help you?" He smiled warmly at me, his thick glasses was perched on the tip of his nose, making it hard to make eye contact.
"Yes, I'm Robbert's daughter and he's Tim's son. Can I come in?" He made way for us and I smiled warmly at him. Doctor Greg. That was his name.
My dad had both his legs on a small stool and a cup of tea beside him. There was a sterile water bag hanging on an IV pole, I basically pounced on him and englufed him in a tight hug. He smells musky, just like the hospital - but there was a tinge of fishyness too. Thank goodness.
"Rose, darling, I missed you." He stroke my hair carefully and I held both his hands.
"Daddy, your skin is paper thin..." I stroke them gently and he chuckled.
"Yeah, it's been getting really hard to take a shower on my own. Tears my skin off easily." I bit my lip and sighed. Of all the people on earth, why him?
"William! My boy!" Tim's roaring voice echoed the room and they hugged as well, patting each other on the back.
"Hey dad, glad to see you again." His eyes met mine and I gave him a sad smile. Immediately, he walked toward us and handed my dad his tea.
"Thank you William, nice to see you again." We caught up for a while and my dad listened to everything that's happened, from the fight to Tony - everything.
"Baby girl, I'm sorry for not being there for you. You were so strong all by yourself, I'm so proud of you." He placed the tea down and moved around to get comfortable.
"You're becoming just like your mother." I smiled sincerely and rested my head on his chest. I loved it when he talks about my mother, but it makes me sad at the same time. The night that truck hit my mother - I was so alone, so clueless. I didn't know what to do. I was there in the hospital grasping on her hand, begging her to stay strong. She just looked at me with lifeless eyes - ones that were bright and cheery, those large blue eyes were the only thing I could remember when she died on the hospital bed. I couldn't look at aything else - only her eyes etched my mind. Her mouth hung open and her skin was so pale I couldn't recognize her. Blood was pouring out of her lower hip, her hand was placed on the wound so it was bloody as well. I held that hand. I was so scared, not because of the blood, but whether or not she was strong enough to hand this. I cried the whole night, my dad cried too. I've never seen my daddy cry before, and that was hard too. She was strong. She's been strong for a long time, but I refused to let her go. I screamed and yelled at the people working there because they didn't allow me to hold my mother's hand when they were about to bring her out. Luckily daddy was there to calm me down. He was the only to look out for me. Right now, I'll be the one to look after my daddy, it's my turn to be the strong one.
