I made my way down stairs about 3 in the morning. Edward was at Bella's, obviously, Rosalie and Emmett were in their room doing things I didn't want to think about. Carlisle had a night shift at the hospital, Esme was drawing a new house design and Jasper and Alice were sat in the lounge watching TV.

"Hey," I greeted them as I went to sit on the other sofa to the one they were sat on.
"Hey," Alice said. "Can we talk to you about something?" I didn't want it to be Demetri.
"It depends."
"On what?" Jasper asked.
"What it's about."
"Our gifts and you," Alice told me. That was surprising and strange.
"Sure," I said.

"Okay," Alice started "So remember that time when I told you that I couldn't see your future?"
"Yeah."
"Well, when you fought Jasper and when you yelled at him earlier tonight, I could see. The mist disappeared and I could see your future. I now know you won't end up with Demetri but I don't know whether that's your choice from now or not. But it won't happen. There's a missing factor somewhere. But anyway, Jasper," she turned to him. This was really weird. What had happened at those times that allowed her to see my future?

"And I can, normally, feel your emotions, the same as I can with everyone else but last night when you yelled at me, I couldn't. I couldn't for parts of your argument with Rosalie either but I could sense enough to see when you were going to attack her. Or maybe that was just my experience from the army. Either way, we think we have figured something out."
"What is that?" I asked, partly shocked.
"We think," Alice explained "that it is part of your gift."
"Part of my gift? How?"
"Well, in both those situations, you were angry. Our gifts were affected by how you felt. As you can influence people's senses we think you can influence others' gifts as our gifts are like another sense," Alice explained.

"Well I suppose it could be," I said "It changed when I got here as well because you could see my future before I moved here. But isn't that a bit unlikely? My gift has already evolved to influencing what people can feel. The chances that it can evolve more must be fairly low. And Edward can read my thoughts."
"Yes but I can feel your emotions. When you're angry it seems to change it. Alice can see when you're angry and I can't feel when you are. Maybe it's the same for Edward as me. We don't know as he wasn't here when you were angry or maybe it's a different emotion. We don't know." Jasper said.

"We don't know. I could try and see if I can change what you feel and see on purpose." I suggested.
"That's a good idea though if it's a new part of your gift it could take a while for you to learn to control it."
"Let's not start tonight. I'll tell Edward tomorrow and maybe we could start practicing then."
"Cool, that sounds good," Alice said.

School the next day was the same as usual. Edward had come back in the morning to retrieve his car before going back to pick up Bella. I had told him Alice and Jasper's theory and he agreed though he said nothing had made his minding reading waver. He thought it would be good to practice but on Alice or Jasper who we knew could be affected by the possible new aspect of my gift.

It was lunch and Edward looked very nervous. Alice was looking at him and I presumed thinking that he should calm down.

Alice was excited. I knew she planned to say hi to Bella as her, Edward and I left.

At one point during lunch I noticed Rosalie glaring at Edward before her callous eyes turned to Bella. Edward hissed in her direction, too softly for Bella to have heard. With that, Rosalie motioned to Emmett, stood up and huffed, still graceful and elegant, from the room.

"Time to go Elle," Alice said turning to me.
"Right." I stood up and we made our way over to the table where Edward and Bella were sat.

"Alice," Edward said flatly once we were stood behind him.
"Edward," She said beaming widely.
"Alice, Bella - Bella, Alice," Edward continued in a flat voice. He hadn't wanted this to happen yet but Alice was ecstatic.
"Hello Bella. It's nice to finally meet you." Alice subtly stressed the 'finally'.
"Hi Alice," Bella said sounding nervous.

"And Bella this is Eliana, Eliana, Bella though I think you two already know each other."
"Yes we do," Bella smiled at me and I smiled back.
"Hi. Are you ready, Edward?"  I asked.
"Nearly. I'll meet you at the car."

Alice and I walked off. You could see the excitement on her face.
"Seriously, Alice. You look like you're about to burst from excitement." She grinned at me.
"I am. I have just, successfully, started a beautiful friendship that will last forever, literally." I laughed and she did to.

"Edward is going to go get Bella's truck and bring it here so I'm driving."
"Why can't I drive?" I asked.
"Because you're too slow," she said sitting in the drivers seat at lightening speed.
"You're so annoying, Alice," I moaned.
"I know," she said laughing.

I made my way round to the passenger's seat and sat down. A few moments later, Edward joined us, running at full speed across the parking lot knowing no one could see him.

"Don't be upset," Alice said. "You'll be with her all day tomorrow. "We'll meet you at home after you run and get Bella's truck. That is, assuming, the truck survives your driving." I stifled a laugh.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence," he said slightly sarcastically.

Edward ran off to Bella's house whilst Alice drove us home. We were sat on the porch waiting for him when Edward came running up the driveway. We stood up and ran into the forest.

We took Edward and Alice's normal route though I didn't really know what that was.
"Why didn't we go any further away?" I asked. "We could have found you something better to eat before tomorrow."
"I know but I wanted to stay close to home." Edward said.

"She's fine, I promise. I would see if anything was going to happen. I keep a pretty close watch on her, you know." Alice told him.
"I know. I appreciate it, really."
"And?" I asked.
"Hey, I thought I was the only mind reader."
"You're rather transparent, Edward," Alice smiled "Well at least to us you are."
"Fine. I was hoping maybe you could keep a particularly close eye on her tomorrow. I know you said I have nothing to worry about, but it would make me feel better knowing you're making sure I don't do anything we'll all regret." Edward told her.

Alice came to a sudden halt and I had to run back a few metres to where she was standing.
"Of course I'll help in any way I can, but...listen, I know you don't want to hear this, but you have to remember I can only see as far as the decisions the two of you make. Right now, she trusts you implicitly, and you have made up your mind quite definitively to be her protector. You have no conscious desire to hurt her, and if something were to happen, it would be the result of a sudden, split second decision. If that was the case, there wouldn't be much I could do about it." Edward stared at Alice, seeming frightened. I placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled warmly at him.

"Edward, neither of us believe you'll do anything to hurt her, but it's just that this really is in your hands. You're just going to have to trust yourself. Trust yourself as much as Bella trusts you."
"Thanks, you two," he said.

"Now there's a herd of elk about a mile away. Let's race. Last one there gets the scrawny ones." I was off in a blur. I followed my smell and may have blinded Alice for a moment so I had a lead she couldn't catch up with. Edward, however, was a different matter. Though he gave us a 10 second head start, Edward still won. I didn't think he'd been particularly fast as a human, but maybe he was. We hadn't exactly done a lot of running.

Alice arrived last but only seconds after I did. I laughed at the look on her face. "I'm surprised you'd start a race you saw you were going to lose," I said.
"I wasn't going to. I didn't see you using your gift." Her face went into a small pout.
"Sorry, Alice. It's all about the split second decisions." I laughed again and Edward did too. "You don't have to eat the scrawny ones, just let's hunt."

We descended on the herd and had finished them off very soon. Edward drank the most, gorging himself so there was no chance of him being thirsty tomorrow.

After we had finished feeding we took off home. The run was silent, which I didn't mind. I thought about tomorrow. It would be nice for Edward to have a whole day alone with Bella. He deserved to be happy and she made him happy. I saw him smiling at me and I smiled back. A few minutes later he growled at Alice, which surprised me. The apologetic look on her face was sincere. I wondered what she'd been thinking about. Probably visions Edward didn't want to see.

By the time Edward had got changed and left, the sun was already beginning to rise.
