Chapter 13 - Explanation

"Fine," he sighed after a few moments of silence. "The reason he left was...he's jealous." My mouth fell open in shock at Jasper's words.

"Jealous?" I repeated. "That's what this is about?" Jasper nodded.

I just shook my head and turned and walked away.

All this time Edward hadn't been speaking to me because he was jealous?

Is this actually a joke?

I opened the back door and headed outside into the, I guess, garden. It's more a clearing in a forest.

As soon as the warm sunlight hit my skin, it sparked like a million tiny crystals and small streams of light hit the ground around me.

Once I reached the stream at the edge of the clearing, I took off my sneakers and socks then placed my feet in the cold water, though it didn't feel cold to my vampire skin.

I sat there for awhile thinking about what Jasper had told me.

Edward had seriously gotten that mad, and left his family, because he was jealous. Jealous of what, even? Me?

I didn't know and I gave up trying to figure it out. I thought I understood my brother, turns out I don't. Edward is a hard person to figure out.

I wasn't sure how long I'd sat there when I heard someone approaching from behind. From their scent I knew it was Rose so I didn't make any move to turn around or defend myself when she approached.

"Are you alright?" She asked, sitting down next to me, cross legged, on the grass.
"Yes, I'm fine," I replied. "Just confused."
"About what?"
"What Edward was jealous about."
"Isn't it obvious?"
"You all knew?" I asked. Rose nodded.
"I didn't want to keep it from you but Jasper thought it would be best."
"But why? It's not even that bad so why couldn't I know? Surely it would have been better to tell me considering how depressed I got about possibly never talking to my brother again."

"Ok, I'll explain it all if you would like. But don't let it change anything. Please."
"Why would it change anything?" Now I was really confused.

"What do you think Edward could be jealous of?" Rose started. "Given his current situation." Just her saying that made it all click.
"Me being with Kyle," I said sadly. "But I still don't get why everyone needed to keep it from me."
"Because Kyle was the only thing that kept you happy and no one wanted to ruin that."

But that's what it had done.

"Please, Ellie," Rose said "Edward will come round, I promise. He will fix things with Bella and he will talk to you again. He sent you a text, right?" I nodded. "Then that's good. It's a start so don't do anything you'll regret later on."

With that she stood up and turned to go back to the house.

I stayed in that spot for the rest of the day, thinking everything over.

Being with Kyle was hurting my brother. I couldn't do that. I couldn't hurt him. Yet, I loved Kyle. But Edward wouldn't speak to me whilst I was with him. I know Rose told me not to let it change anything but I couldn't do that. I had to hurt one of them to keep the other.

I had to choose between Kyle and Edward. But which one?
