Three months have passed since the day Lillian and Link followed Abe into Winterton. Just like Abe said, the travelers were mostly welcomed with open arms. Not only that, when it was revealed who Link was, their status in the community went from foreigners to esteemed guests. The villagers flocked them for weeks, interested in the new faces and what life was like now that Gannondorf has a his hands on Hyrule. Link and Lillian decided to keep the real reason why they left Hyrule between themselves. All the villagers know is that Link was resigned of his duties and with nothing left for them back home, they decided they wanted a new start.
Link and Lillian intended to stay a few days upon their arrival. Just enough time to get a break from travel life so they can sleep in a bed and have a warm meal or two. But a few days quickly became a few weeks and before they knew it, they were around to watch the first snow fall. It was when it occurred to them that they were contributing to the livelihood of the village that they decided to stay. Since they were so welcomed and they never had anywhere else to go, they figured they would enjoy the comfort while they can for as long as they can. They never said the words, but they hoped forever.
There was a house already vacant which Lillian and Link both shared. They could live in separate houses eventually, but the two friends enjoyed the comfort they brought to each other as they settled into a foreign village. Unless one of them decided to start a family of their own, they both shared an unspoken agreement that they would co-exist together.
This morning, Link steps outside pulling his jacket close to him as the early morning chill catches him off guard. He spots Lillian by herself on an open plot of land and walks to where she is. She hears the crunch of his boots in the snow and turns around to see who her company is. Her red cheeks are peeking through the thick fur of her hood and Link wonders how long she has been outside.
"What are you doing up so early?" says Link.
She cups her chin in her hand, still sizing up the ground. "I think here is good," she says, being indirect in her response. Link looks at what she is looking at wondering if he his missing something. But all he sees is an empty plot of land that has done nothing except accumulate snow.
"Good for what?" he says.
"A house," she says looking down at the ground as if it's easier to face than him. "My house," she adds.
"Oh. I didn't know you were planning on moving."
"I guess I wasn't really planning on it. It's something that I have been thinking about the past couple of days."
He stares at the vacant land.
"Link? Are you alright?" she says.
"Oh yeah. Just caught me off guard."
"Why would you be surprised by this? We are not getting any younger and I have been getting close with someone and... would like my privacy."
Link looks at her, his eyes wide. "He is twice your age and married. You have to left this go, Lillian."
She shakes her head. "What kind of lady do you take me for? I don't chase guys who don't reciprocate my interest, so I gave up on Abe for long ago."
"So who is it you're getting close to this time?" he sighs.
"James," she says smiling.
"James?" he puts his hands on his stomach and starts to laugh, white swirls radiating from his mouth with every exhale. "He's so lame."
Lillian smacks his arms. "He is not. Besides, I have seen you two beating around the village. You never thought he was lame then."
"I didn't know you two were a thing then," he says.
