"Can you believe it, Dear? I can't believe that we are about to meet our first grandchild. What do you think they had?"
Link watches Zelda as she skips ahead of them. Mika, their daughter-in-law, was admitted to the castle's infirmary yesterday morning. They waited eagerly for the baby's arrival and at last, the midwife came to them this morning with news that the baby was born and everyone is safe and healthy.
"A boy of course," says Link.
"Why so confident?" says Zelda looking back at him, eyebrow raised.
"We need a strong male lead to take over mine and Eli's role within this kingdom."
Zelda laughs hysterically. "Do you hear yourself? You sound sexist. And besides, there are a lot of amazing, strong females in this world."
Link puts his hand on her shoulder. "I know you're one."
"That's kind of your to say," she says smirking. Then her face turns serious. "As was Lillian and Elule would be too, had have been given a change."
Link stops her and putting his hand on her face, bends down to kiss her.
"You're absolutely right. If it's a girl, she will be just as strong as she has a lot of inspiration to look up to you... but... I still think it's a boy."
"Well, I think you're wrong because I just KNOW they had a little girl."
"And what makes you so confident?" says Link.
"You see, my love, women are strong but we also have another thing called women's intuition. You men are not familiar with this."
He lets out a quick breath through his nose. "I guess we will find out who's right and who's wrong now." They arrive to the room and Link taps on the door.
"Come in," says the voice from inside.
"Oh Eli. Mika," says Zelda when she enters the room. "Congratulations to you both."
"Mother! Father!" says Eli as he embraces his mother and shakes his father's hands. He takes the swaddled baby from Mika and passes it to Zelda. "We would love for you meet our first child, and heir to our throne... Hyrule's new princess."
"A girl! I knew so much. Can you believe it, Link? We are holding our granddaughter."
"May I?" says Link.
Zelda kisses the baby's forehead and passes him the baby, though she is unable to take her eyes away from her. Link touches his granddaughter's face. "Does she have a name yet?" he asks.
"Her name is Lilly-Elule," says Mika. "Eli wouldn't have it any other way and I can't say I would either." Eli sits on the edge of Mika's bed and kisses her forehead.
"Well Lilly-Elule, you have two big names to live up to. Two people who have fought really hard and is a big reason that I'm even holding you right now," he looks over and fondly watches his son as he interacts with Zelda and Mika. Then he looks back at the baby and into her big blue eyes.
"It's been so hard saying good-bye. I really feel this is the first time I get to say... hello," says Link.
Zelda comes over and looks at the baby over Link's shoulders. "I agree," she says caressing the baby's cheek. "I never thought I would be able to say good-bye to my sweet Elule but the thing is... she is with me in everything I do. And call me crazy but Lilly's dark skin and red hair reminds me so much of Elule. I don't know where she would have inherited that from."
Link sighs as he briefly reflects on his own life and how such a sweet and vulnerable moment like holding his baby granddaughter can make all the chaos before... worth it. Lilly coos and he looks down at her. He has more he wants to tell her but for now, he'll keep it to himself only to be shared should a new world order arise.
You're going to have so many people protect you. I hope to the Goddesses you don't endure what your father and grandparents endured but... well, who am I kidding? Having Royal Blood is no easy feature. But I see a ferociousness in your eyes that I have known from people in my past. When I see that, I know that you will be okay. I know that you will do great things, my sweet granddaughter.
Welcome to Hyrule, Lilly-Elule. It's truly an honor to meet you.
