-Author's POV-
The weekend flew by quickly, all (Y/n) really did was lay around on her bed and scroll through her phone silently. Her brother wasn't around that much to spend time with her since he had to work day and night in order to send (Y/n) to school, as sad as it is, (Y/n) tried her best to understand their current situation.
She pitied her brother, having to drop out of college just to provide for her when he could have been living the best of his life right now. He had to sacrifice so much for his little sister and (Y/n) loved her brother dearly even though she wasn't able to express it that much.
Nothing tragic ever happened to their parents, really, their previous household just wasn't the happiest.
Their parents were a bunch of drunkards who would inflict harm towards the siblings once they get really drunk which.. happens most of the time. They would also bring in different girls and guys into their bedroom every single night.
They tried telling them about the other's actions but it didn't really help change anything. They'd hit them if they hear even the tiniest of noise escape their mouths, so they kept them shut and lived on quietly under the (L/n) household until (Y/n)'s brother turned 18 (The legal age in our country is 18, It might not be the case in other countries though).
As soon as (B/n) turned 18, he packed all their things and took (Y/n) with him to live a new life.
"Come on, they're sleeping. Let's sneak out quietly," he would whisper quietly.
A young (Y/n) trailed behind him, trying her best to stay quiet to avoid waking up their sleeping parents.
The front door creaked open quietly and as soon as they slipped out, rain started pouring down from the dark sky followed with a couple of lightnings.
Despite having his hands full of their luggage, (B/n) wrapped his hand around his little sister's smaller one.
Her hands were shaking due to.. what exactly? Because of adrenaline?.. Maybe excitement? Perhaps fear?
She didn't know nor care as much because as soon as the siblings locked their hands together, they felt safe. They felt like they could face the cruel world just by being in each other's presence.
It's nothing new, they depended on each other right from the start. They wouldn't mind doing it for another decade.
"I didn't exactly look at the weather forecast before planning this out." Her brother mumbled bitterly.
A part of him wanted to go back inside and grab an umbrella, but he knew that it would be too risky. They might get caught, get dragged back inside, and get punished for taking money out of their parent's wallet. They had no choice, money doesn't appear out of thin air and money is needed for them to survive in this society.
"Oh well, we'll manage. We've gone this far already. Ready, (Y/n)?" (B/n) asked, looking down at his sister with a nervous but brave smile.
(Y/n) looked up at him and nodded her head slowly, hearing her heartbeat thumping against her eardrums.
"On the count of three."
"One,"
(Y/n)'s grip on her brother's hand slowly tightened. She held onto him as if she was gonna lose him if she lets go.
"Two," he continues the countdown.
"Three."
(B/n) broke off into a sprint, dragging (Y/n) with him. She tried to match his pace but it took a lot out of her since she wasn't blessed with long legs unlike her brother.
The siblings got soaked pretty quickly since it was raining pretty hard but neither of them minded.
They didn't dare look back and continued on forward and away from their old abode.
