In the Sunnydale Zoo, it was nighttime. All of the animals were asleep in the cages behind the exhibits. In one of them, a male lion cub was dreaming. He had brown eyes and his fur was wooly, gold, and tan, with spots that would disappear as he grew. He had four symbols on his right shoulder: Okodee Mmowere, which symbolizes power, bravery, and strength; the Swahili word mtoto, meaning child; Akofena, representing courage, bravery, and heroism; and a lion paw signifying progress, accomplishment, protection, bravery, and guidance. He had these symbols since birth, making him unique among the lion cubs.

In the lion cub's dream, he was walking down a dark hallway when he encountered a girl with long blonde hair, emerald eyes, and a scar on her neck. She wore a dress with cherries and had a brown leather bag. As the girl rubbed gray mud on her face, the color scheme changed to infrared red and ultraviolet. The cub, filled with fear, tried to escape but was captured by the girl. He witnessed visions of her battling evil forces before waking up in fear.

The cub reminded himself that it was just a dream and went back to sleep. Simba and the other cubs were born in the Sunnydale Zoo on October 1, 2019, after being transported from a flooded zoo in Zimbabwe. Simba often dreamed of the girl fighting various adversaries, unaware that she was in Sunnydale and that their paths would soon cross.
