"Welcome back, (Y/n)."

You faced the tall, gray-haired male and quickly bowed your head. "Good Morning, Sir!"

Yukine's eyes widened before bowing his head as well. "Is this what a real god looks like?"

Yato was, once again, hit with a shock of pain. "I'm a real god too! Why do you treat him any different?!"

"Are you seriously asking that question?" Mayu joined in, "Isn't it obvious..."

You smiled and waved at the green-eyed female. She was gorgeous and stood confidently next to her new master.

Tenjin took his paper fan and waved it up and down in front of you, "Now now (Y/n). We have important matters to discuss. You and Yato can follow me inside, and Mayu,"

"Yes, sir?"

Tenjin looked at Yukine and smiled. "Show this young man around my large, luxurious shrine."

Yato growled but didn't say anything. It was clear as day that Tenjin was purposely trying to annoy him, but he refused to let it show.

Mayu did as she was told and waved Yukine to follow her. Then, you and Yato followed the older man into the building. Inside was one large room with a table in the center. You figured he had multiple other rooms, but this was just one of the many others. Tenjin sat down while you and Yato took a seat on the opposite side of the table.

The man that seemed calmed and relaxed, now looked serious and worried. His expression made you fear for the worst.

He cleared his throat and began speaking. "(Y/n), has Yato explained to you anything about the fat shore?"

You looked up and rubbed the back of your neck, trying to recall previous conversations. "No, I don't think so."

"The far shore is the world of the non-living. It consists of Gods, their Shinki, and Phantoms. You are alive, but somehow managed to put your body in the middle of both the north and far shore."

You looked over at Yato, who wore a serious expression. You would be lying if you said it wasn't attractive.

You returned your focus to Tenjin. "So you're saying that I'm in the middle of two different worlds? Why is that?"

"I am not sure, but people shift over to the far shore after they've died. And from what I'm seeing, you seem very much alive."

You opened your mouth to speak, but Yato beat you to it. "Is she shifting back and forth or is it more of a gradual process?" Yato asked. You were shocked after hearing him speak in a serious tone again. It almost gave you chills. "(Y/n) mentioned before that this could've been happening for a while. She wouldn't have known though, considering we look like normal humans. But if she is gradually falling towards the far shore it would explain why she can't see phantoms just yet. And if that is the case, how much longer does she have until...?" Yato cleared his throat and looked over at you. "Until she's gone."

The last few words seemed painful to say for him. He could barely get it out and stared into your eyes filled with worry.

What if he's right? Am I just eroding away? Am I going to die?

You didn't notice but tears had filled your eyes and began to drop down your face. You quickly used your shirt to wipe them away. It was embarrassing crying in front of two gods, but for some reason, your body did it without you even realizing.

"(Y/n), I truly hope that is not the case. Have you been involved in any traumatic accident before? Anything life-threatening?"

You thought back to your childhood. From you could recall, the last ten years of your life was the definition of traumatic. You knew you made it seem more serious than it truly was, but it wasn't any close to good. Your mother was abusive for the most part, forcing you to be her permanent shadow. Whenever you didn't get a good grade, did something impolite in public or acted somewhat different than she instructed you to, there was a price to pay. Honestly, the sound of you slowly dying didn't sound too crazy.

With mother being a crazy alcoholic, it increased her abusive behavior. What started with normal child discipline, turned into her striking you constantly for every mild mistake you made. She made your existence sound like a sin. And no matter how much you hated her being in the same house as you, it pained you, even more, to be alone after those experiences.

One time on a Saturday morning, at 2 am, your mother came home late from 'work'. She wasn't modeling or recording her show overseas, so she spent nights out doing unspeakable things. You were sick with a fever and treated yourself with soup and cold medicine. Not to mention you just came home from a rough day of exams, all you wanted to do was sleep.

You woke up in the middle of the night to her screaming at you, hovering over your face. Your fever barely dropped, and you were so fatigued, standing up was difficult. Although you try to tell your mother she refused to listen. Calling you things you'd never repeat to another person, she pulled you out of bed and hit you constantly with a wooden bat. After at least half an hour, you were left on the ground covered in bruises, blood and some fractured bones.

You fell unconscious and woke up in the hospital the next morning. Your mother told the doctor about someone breaking into your house in the middle of the night while she was at work. According to her, she returned and found you in a disastrous state. It was probably the closest you've gotten to dying and it sure as hell wasn't an accident.

You snapped back to reality with both men staring at you. The room remained silent and their expressions were the same. It was like they knew, they could tell just by your face.

"No," your voice was hoarse, "I haven't been in an accident before."

Tenjin squinted his eyes before releasing a sigh, "If you notice any differences in your surroundings, like additional noises, creatures, or even rash-like marks on the body, come to me immediately."

You nodded before standing up and thanking him. You were about to leave when Tenjin asked to speak to Yato for a moment in private. You exited the room by yourself but immediately spotted Yukine across the yard with Mayu. You walked over to speak with them.

"Hey (Y/n)!" Yukine waved. He was assisting Mayu in some chores. "This guy's rich! This place is huge!"

You smiled, "Yeah, Tenjin is pretty loaded, huh?"

"Well, he is the god of Learning..." Mayu stated.

'Learning, huh?...'

"No!" You yelled before falling to the ground dramatically. How did I forget about school?! My suspension ended today I was supposed to go back!

"(Y/n)! Are you okay?!" Yukine dropped down and looked at your face.

"I was supposed to go to school today and I completely forgot! My mom's going to kill me!"
