43| Mr. Stevens is Not so Bad

Joshua was something else. I couldn't believe he was going to let me go just like that. After I realised he wasn't ready to beg me to go to New York with him, I respected myself, and carefully boarded the plane with him. After all, I had more to loose.

Although I'd been to New York a good number of times, everything looked new to me. It was as busy as always with people going to and fro for their daily activities.

We were taken straight from the airport to a hotel—"One of the best hotels in the city" Josh had said.

"We reserved two suites as you requested but the air-conditioner in one of the rooms stopped functioning this morning" the African American receptionist informed us while looking into her desktop computer. "We're going to fix it soon"

"That's alright, I'll take the room with the functioning air conditioner" Josh said to the receptionist. At first, I thought I must've misheard what he said but I was wrong.

"Ehem!" I said out loud to get Josh's attention and it worked. Josh turned to me with a look that asked "what?" "I'm not sleeping without air conditioner Mr. Stevens. Do you not know how to treat a lady?"

He simply rolled his eyes before turning back to the receptionist, "Miss Nwankwo will have  the suite with Air-condition" he mumbled, "But I want the air conditioning in my room fixed before tonight" he instructed the receptionist. Someone who didn't know him would think he was the owner of the hotel.

The male attendants took our luggage to our various rooms before we got into the elevator and went up to the floor our room.

Josh's room was next to mine and I knew he intentionally requested for it to be like that. As soon as I entered the room, I was impressed with the interior decoration. It was spacious with a king-sized bed and a TV and some armchairs for comfort. The suite had it's bathroom and toilet too.

As soon as I got settled, I decided to take a shower before taking a long nap. I wrapped my towel around my chest and I stepped into the bathtub and hung my towel before turning on the shower.

I was halfway done with my bath when I started feeling movement and sounds in the bathtub. I looked down to see a rat in the tub. I screamed and immediately grabbed turned off the shower and grabbed my towel before jumping out of the tub only to see two more rats running around in the bathroom. Did I mention I hate rodents?

I couldn't possibly stay in that suite because, I soon realized the rats were coming from under my bed. I screamed my way out of the room with only my towel wrapped around my naked body.
I banged on Josh's door like I was being chased by zombies and they would eat me if he didn't opened the door.

The way I banged on the door was enough to raise the dead. As soon as the door swung open, I pushed the shirtless guy out of the way and ran inside.

"I'm going to sue your ass to court" Josh told the Asian, middle aged man who happened to be the manger of the hotel. "What sort of nonsense is this? Those rats could've killed her?" Josh hollered at the manger and staff while I just stood behind and watched the show.

"Sir, with all due respect, I don't think the rats would've harmed her..." the manger said with his accent.

"Oh, is that so?" Josh feigned a surprised look, "Why don't I lock you up in that room and see if you'll survive"

"Sir, we are very sorry for what happened but right now, there aren't any available suites for Miss. Nwankwo" said the manager.

"So what exactly are you trying to say?" Josh asked. "You know the air conditioning in this room isn't working right?"

"We will fix it sir, but, if you and Miss. Nwankwo could share this suite for tonight, by tomorrow, some suites will be available"

"This is unbelievable," Josh sighed. "You know what? We're leaving this hotel tomorrow... You can go now" they left after Josh had dismissed them.

"So... What's going to happen now?" I asked Josh

"Well, you heard him, we're sharing this room"
