Amy and Jeff made a campfire and sat back to look at the beautiful night. A firefly landed on Amy's knee, and she cupped her hands around it, seeing it's soft light. She held it up to her face, and let it fly away.
"You like those, don't you?" Jeff asked.
"Yeah, catching fireflies was the highlight of the summer. It was like holding a fireworks show in my hand."
"What else do you like?"
"Reading, writing, going to the Asian quarter of town or the library or movies. I love the beach on sunny days, too."
"Maybe we'll go sometimes." Jeff said, resting his hand next to hers; they were still too nervous to touch.
"I've been wondering a lot about what's going on these days, Jeff." Amy said. "You know, the protests, the war, people trying to change the world. Can the two of us really change the world?" Jeff thought about his answer. He looked at Amy and the glow of the fire on her face. He liked how it made her look; her hair messy from the ride on his bike and the firelight; a warrior queen.
"It might not change the world, but it might leave a mark on it." He said, hoping he said the right thing.
"That's all I needed to know." Amy said.
It had gotten very late, and the two of them went back to town. Jeff parked his bike in front of Amy's house and walked with her up to the door. As she opened it, he gave her a small, but awkward kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks for making me so happy tonight." He said, sounding a little embarrassed.
"You're welcome. Goodnight." Amy said as she walked inside. She watched him ride away, and she could hardly sleep that night because she was still thinking about his kiss.
