Eternal Shadows: Moonlit Justice

Chapter 6

Thomas is awake within the next hour. He checks up on Ellie, who is still fast asleep, and then he goes to Gray's room. Gray is up and playing on the floor with some of his toys. When Thomas comes in he gleefully squeals and runs over to him. He grabs onto his legs.

Thomas laughs quietly and says, "Hey there! I missed you too!"

"Mama?" he asks.

"Yes, your mama is here too, but she's sleeping."

"Sleeping?"

"Yep, you want to go see her?"

"Yay!"

"Okay, but you gotta be quiet."

"Quiet." Thomas guides Gray to his mother's room. He carefully opens the door, so it doesn't wake Ellie up. He goes in and Gray follows. Thomas sits down on the bed and Gray tries to climb onto the bed. Thomas laughs again and bends over and picks him up. He gently sets him on the bed.

He crawls over to his mother and gives her a gentle kiss on her cheek. Ellie happily sighs in her sleep.

Thomas picks Gray up and puts her back on the floor. "Come on, kiddo," he says, "Let's go play."

"Play!" he says back to him. He runs out of the room. Thomas follows behind him. Thomas carries Gray downstairs and begins to play with him. After about two hours of playing Thomas' phone starts to ring.

"Hello?" Thomas answers, "oh Mila. Um no she's still sleeping. Well, having odd working hours, it's kind of hard to sleep when we're tired. Not to mention she has a one year old to take care of. Yeah, yeah we're coming in as soon as we can." He hangs up, Gray is looking at him curiously.

"What wrong?" he asks.

"It's nothing, just work," he answers.

Gray charges at Thomas' legs. He picks him up and flips him upside down. They continue to wrestle until it's time to go to bed.

"Are you ready to go to bed?" Thomas asks.

"Bed!" he answers happily.

Thomas carries him to his bedroom and tucks him in. He walks out of the room and peeks into Ellie's room. She's still sleeping, Thomas smiles and thinks, "Jesus, she must have been exhausted, she's been sleeping all day." He goes to his room and falls asleep.

In the morning, Thomas is the first one up. He goes downstairs and cooks breakfast. An hour after he gets up, Gray toddles into the kitchen.

"Gray!" he says, "Did you get down the stairs by yourself?"

Gray beams, "Uh huh."

"Well, okay. I made breakfast. Are you hungry?"

"Hungry!"

Thomas laughs and picks Gray up to put him in his highchair. Once Gray is in his highchair, he bounces up and down excitedly. Thomas puts a cut-up pancake onto a plate and gives it to Gray. Gray starts to eat, getting bits of pancake everywhere.Thomas goes to the table, sits down and starts to eat.
