Eternal Shadows: Moonlit Justice

Chapter 3

Thomas puts the address into his phone and looks briefly at it. He shifts back into his wolf form and Ellie gets back onto his back. She lays her head on Thomas' neck and closes her eyes. She drifts off to sleep again and is awoken when Thomas gently urges her awake. "Hey," he says, "We're here."

Ellie stumbles off his back and rubs the sleep from her eyes. Thomas has already started to walk up to the front door. Ellie starts to run to catch up to him. Once at the door, he briefly pauses before ringing the doorbell.

They wait several seconds before someone opens the door. "Hello?" he says."

"Are you Liam?" Thomas asks.

"Yes. What do you need?"
"Your wife," Ellie answers, "is she home?"

"Yes?"
"We need to see her now!"

"Okay?"

Ellie and Thomas push past him. They walk into the living room, where Alice is. The scent of a newly changed werewolf slams into their faces. They exchange looks and then pouce on Alice.

Alice, who had not sensed their arrival, tries to push them off of her. Ellie, in response, pushes Alice down even harder. Liam walks into his living room to find the two people whom he had recently greeted at the door, have pounced on top of his wife.

"What's going on, Liam?" Alice cries out.

"I don't know! Hey! What's going on?"
Thomas turns to him and answers, "We know that Alice here attacked an innocent civilian recently, when she shifted for the first time."

Alice's eyes widen as she finally realizes what and who they are. "You're hunters, aren't you?"
Ellie, while still holding Alice down, answers, "Yeah, we are." I'm Detective Ellie Ashfield and that's my brother Detective Thomas Ashfield."

Alice looks frightened, "Are you..." "..are you going to kill me?"

Ellie loosens her grip, "What? No! You haven't done anything wrong yet!"

"Then why are you here?" Liam shouts.

Ellie fully lets go of Alice, "We wanted to make sure you weren't causing any trouble."

"Oh, I didn't mean to attack that person." She begins to cry. "It was an accident! I swear!"

"That's what we thought. We wanted to make sure though."

"So, you won't kill me?"

"No, it was an accident and we can prevent Ella from changing, so as long as it doesn't happen again we won't need to kill you."

"You can prevent her from turning?" Liam asks.

"Yes, but it only works if the turning werewolf hasn't eaten a human heart." Ellie responds.

"How?"

"I need a syringe full of Alice''s blood."

"What!" Liam shouts, "that's not happening!"

"No," Alice says, "go ahead." She rolls one of her sleeves up, revealing her arm. Ellie gets a syringe out and carefully inserts it into Alice's arm. Once the syringe is full of Alice's blood, Ellie carefully pulls it out of her arm.

"Sit down," Ellie says to Alice, "I don't want you to faint or something like that."

"Okay." She sits down on the couch and closes her eyes.

"What have you done to her?" Liam shouts.

"Nothing," Ellie responds, "she'll be fine. She just needs to rest. Make sure she eats some food and drinks some water."

"We need to go." Thomas says, " We need to give Ella the concoction as soon as possible." He turns and leaves the room.

Ellie nods her head and follows him before leaving. She turns to Liam and says, "If it takes longer than the rest of today for her to recover, call this number. Liam takes a slip of paper out of her hand and looks at it.

"Okay," he says.

Ellie turns and follows Thomas out the front door. "Okay," she says, "to the hospital!" They shift and run as fast as they can. They arrive there in 30 minutes.
