Eternal Shadows: Moonlit Justice

Chapter 5

In the middle of the night, Thomas' phone starts to ring. He wakes up and answers his phone. "What? Someone was murdered? Okay! I'll get Ellie and we'll be there as soon as possible." He runs into Ellie's room and shouts, "Ellie! Get up!"

Ellie jolts forward and yells back, "What? What's wrong?"

"We need to go to the police station now!"

"What happened?"

"A young woman was found dead about an hour ago..."

"Oh, was her heart missing?"

"Don't know. We have to go find out." Thomas leaves the room and Ellie fumbles out of bed and changes clothes. Thomas waits for her downstairs with the equipment they need.

When she finally gets downstairs, Thomas hands her a gun, filled with silver rounds and a silver knife. "Come on," he says, "let's go."

They shift as soon as they are out of sight, and run as fast as they can to the police station. They swerve into a parking lot and shift back into their human forms. They run into the building, where Mila is waiting for them at the front desk.

"Hey," Mila says.

"Hey," Thomas answers, "is the body here?"

"Yeah." She leads them into a closed off room. The young woman's chest is ripped open, as suspected her heart is missing.

"Shit!" Thomas yells. He leaves the room. "Come on Ellie! Let's go kill a werewolf.

They leave the police station and run to Liam and Alice's house. They go in through the window.

Upon entering the house, they look around for Liam and Alice's bedroom. When Ellie finds it, she whisper-shouts, "Hey, Thomas! I found it!"

They quietly creep into the bedroom. They pull out their guns and shout, "Don't move!" Liam and Alice jolt upwards.

"What's going on?" Alice asks. Ellie reaches for the light switch and flicks it on.

"Don't move!" Thomas shouts, "Where were you about half an hour ago?"

"We were here, in bed," Liam answers, "why?"

Thomas and Ellie lower their weapons, but not their guard. "A young woman was found dead, about two hours ago," Ellie explains, "her heart's missing, so it's definitely a werewolf that's murdered her."

Alice looks ill, "I think I'm going to be sick!" She pushes Thomas out of the way and goes into the bathroom.

"Thomas." Ellie says.

"Yes?" he answers.

"It wasn't her."

"Then who was it?"

"Don't know, but it wasn't her."

"Hey!" Thomas yells at Liam, "Do you know any werewolves that have killed people before?"

"No," he answers. Thomas raises his gun at him. "I swear I don't know!"
Thomas lowers his gun and says, "Okay, if you find anything out, please contact us. Come on Ellie, let's go."

They leave the house and run back to the police station. Upon getting there, Mila answers them, "Well, how'd it go?"
"It wasn't her," Ellie answers.

"Are you sure?"

"Positive. I don't think she would do something this foolish, especially since she's pregnant. There's no way she would put her pup in danger like that."

"Then who was it?"

"Don't know. We'll have to research it."

Ellie and Thomas go to the research archives and start to research deaths similar to this one. They research the rest of the night, it's early in the morning when they finally find something.

"Thomas, look what I found!" Ellie says drowsily. Thomas walks over to her computer and looks at the screen.

Breaking News: Family of 9 Missing

Katrina Lagos and her husband, as well as all their children have been missing for three weeks now. They went missing May 1st 1994. If anyone has seen any of these people, please contact the police.

The next article explained that all 9 bodies had been found several days after the release of the first article. There was only one thing in common with all the victims, every one of the hearts was missing.

"Nice work Ellie!" Thomas says They start to research werewolf lore from the place where it happened. "Ellie, I've found something!"

"What is it?" she answers.

"Supposedly there's a whole pack of werewolves west of where Lagos' lived."

"That makes sense. That would make it a lot easier for Lagos to be food for the werewolves. We should check it out."

"Yeah, come on." They get up and leave the research archives. On their way out they tell Mila about their findings.

"Alright," Mila says, "you should check it out, but first you two should get some rest."

"Okay," Thomas responds. He doesn't really need the rest, but he knows Ellie could use it. She's leaning heavily on him. He helps her outside, where he shifts. She rides on his back. Once they are home, Thomas carries Ellie upstairs to their apartment. He carries her to her bedroom and puts her on her bed. He, then, carefully removes her shoes and socks, before tucking her in.

He leaves the room and goes into his own room. He plops down on the bed and falls asleep quickly.
