I saw Dad walking toward the car, as I got out of the passenger side, at Glammy's house. I saw Mom's face as she got out of her car, so I had a feeling she was going to talk to him & I also had a feeling that it wasn't going to make Dad happy. I made my way into the house, then I went straight to the backyard, where I could spy on my parents. I tried to get as close to them as I could, in order to hear them, but I still couldn't make out what they were saying, from where I stood.

As I watched my parents talk, I saw that my dad was upset. I don't know what my mom told him, but he was angry & sad at the same time. I felt bad for him as he walked into the house, then I looked over at Mom, her back turned toward Dad. My heart broke because I could see she was crying. Sobbing actually. Her hand covered her mouth, then she leaned on the car, like she was trying to not fall over.

I ran out of the backyard toward Mom. "Mom! Mom!" I yelled at her, making her jump, then she started wiping her face, trying to hide the fact that she had been crying. "Mom, are you okay?"

Mom cleared her throat. "I'm fine." She replied, opening her car door.

I grabbed the door so she couldn't open it wide enough to get in & she gave me a dirty look. "You're crying, Mom. What did Dad say to you?"

"He didn't say anything. I was telling him something that was very difficult for him to hear & he was upset."

"What did you tell him?"

"I don't want to explain right now. Just go in & enjoy the time with your family. I will talk to you about it on Sunday."

I rolled my eyes. "Mom, I can't wait until Sunday to find out why you're upset."

She sighed, heavily. "I just told your dad I was moving on."

"Moving on as in dating?"

Mom stared at me, her lips pressed together, then she lifted her shoulders & her eyebrows at the same time. "I promise we will talk more on Sunday. Go have fun & try to make your dad smile." Mom pat my hand as it was still resting on the door frame, then she smiled. "I love you."

"I love you, too." I replied then opened the door all the way so she could get into her car. I stepped back & watched her pull out of the driveway.

As I made my way into the house, I wondered if I should tell my sister what I learned

As I made my way into the house, I wondered if I should tell my sister what I learned. I knew she was going to be pissed but I also knew she would be even more pissed if she knew I knew & didn't tell her. I sighed, as I closed the front door, then headed to the kitchen where I heard Dad's voice.

Dad & Joe were in the kitchen, having some laughs over a couple of beers, which surprised me, considering how upset Dad had looked minutes earlier. When Dad saw me, he smiled, but I could tell he wasn't truly happy. "Hey, Son."
