Another Chance

"I don't want to go." I said to him and walked to my locker.

I opened my locker door and reached for my Literature textbook. I actually enjoyed Lit class. The teacher is an absolute freak though. She has the creepiest laugh and her sense of humor is quite... odd.

The final bell rang and I walked to the class. I was late to class as usual.

"Sara!" Mrs. Norman shouted in a sarcastically excited manner "You decided to show up!"

I heard a few chuckles coming from the white girl group sitting in the back.

I gave the teacher a fake smile and took a seat near the window.

You know what's sad? None of my friends are in any of my classes. Ella is in my homeroom, but that's it. Sometimes I wish Lorena was in my English class. She and I would laugh at the teacher's lame jokes and the bitches' ridiculous book reports.

"Who can tell me what Julius's wife's dream was about?" asked Norman.

The class was silent.

"Derick. Do you know?" She asked the boy.

Derick is no other than Nicholas's younger brother. He is around a year younger than Nic, but he failed sophomore year, so now he needs to take it again. Lucky us! We get to have him in our class! It's just... great.

"Did I raise my hand?" He talked back

"Do you even know who Calpurnia is?" Asked Norman, tying her black hair in a very messy ponytail.

"Ain't that the black nanny?"

"That's just amazing, you don't even know which story we're reading!" She said, dissapointed.

Derek shrugged and began typing on his phone. He was probably texting his slut of a girlfriend.

"That's it young man!" She placed her wrinkly hand on her twiggy waist. Mrs Norman actually looks like a witch. She even has an usually long nose. "You're not allowed in this class until you catch up with everything." She pointed towards the door.

Derek raised his eyebrows. He looked at the door and back to Norman.

"You want me to get out?" He asked, not as confidently as usual.

She nodded.

This whole thing was so amusing to me.

Derek picked up his bag and exited the room. It was amazing how calm he was. He just got kicked out. Shouldn't he be a little mad at least?

The entire class went silent.

"That's what happens when you are not responsible." She said and sat down at her desk. She seemed extremely angry as she typed something on her laptop. After a minute of silence, she finally looked up at the class.

"We have a unit test this Friday." She said, and continued typing.

The entire class let out sighs and a couple "fuck"s and "shit"s were heard. But no one was surprised, we always have a test on Fridays.

Norman gave us the rest of the period to study for the test. I opened my book and read for a while but I ended up falling asleep. Maybe I was tired from all the nonsense that happened with Ella and jail, or maybe I just wasn't used to dealing with people like Theo. I don't know what it was that exhausted me so much, but whatever it was had to stop.

The sound of the bell woke me up. The second I opened my eyes, I saw Ella waving her hand in front of my face.

"Finally! You're awake!" She said, taking a seat next to me.

Recess. It's the time for Ella to tell me about every single thing that's going on in her life.

"You will never believe this. Nic's brother got kicked out of his English class." She basically shouted

"I know, I'm in his class." I said, trying to fall back asleep.

"Oh right." She laughed. "Oh and guess what? Now I have to do some community service shit to make up for the hours I lost."

"Well lucky for you, you only have to make up like 2 hours. I have a shitload. And I'm stuck tutoring this retarded prick."

"Who is it?" She seemed extremely curious

"This guy called Theo. He's probably a junior or something, I dunno."

"Holy shit, is it that model looking guy with the brown hair?" She looked like she was freaking mind blown or something

"Is that all you care about? Looks?" I asked her.

"Don't be acting like you wouldn't fuck him." She smiled

"Are you kidding me? He is the most stuck up piece of--"

"Did you get his number?" She interrupted

"No." I sighed, "I don't want his number. In fact I don't want to see him outside of that room."

"Is he really that bad?" Finally she was listening

"Yes. He picks fights for nothing. And he's confusing. It's like he can't make up his mind. One second he hates me and the next he invites me to music festivals. It's weird as fuck."

"What did you say?" She widened her eyes.

"I said he's confusing."

"Did you say yes to going out with him?"

Hold up

"He didn't ask me out or anything, if that's what you think."

"Did you say yes?" She asked again

"No, Jesus I didn't say yes." I picked up my bag and walked to the door.

"Sara you need to go." She grabbed my arm.

"Why?" I don't get her

"He's hot, and you obviously like him." She gave me a weird smile.

Did she not hear what I just said? I said I don't want to see him outside of class. I said he's a stuck up asshole. How does that translate to "you obviously like him"?

"Honey you need to get your ears checked." I said to her and went towards the locker room. She followed me.

"Okay at least go with him so you can get to know him. After all you are going to spend weeks tutoring him. You need to get to know him better. Maybe he's not that bad. You can't judge a person after only talking for what, an hour?"

I shrugged. She did kind of have a point though.

"Come on!" She insisted "Plus you deserve to have some fun. Music fests are not at all like those late night parties." I didn't say anything

"Great! So you're going." She clapped her hands excitedly, "This is just perfect!"

Maybe she was right. I deserved to have fun and he deserved another chance. So why not? What could go wrong.
